Salary Range
$50,000.00 depending on qualifications
Essential Functions
The Academic Advisor, Teacher Certification Pathways (TCP) supports the success, persistence, completion, and certification progression of undergraduate and post-baccalaureate teacher candidates by providing comprehensive academic advising, individualized degree and certification planning, progress monitoring, student-success intervention, and program navigation. Working with Teacher Certification faculty, certification personnel, school-district partners, and University offices, the position applies established academic and educator-preparation requirements, maintains accurate student and grant records, analyzes advising and progression data, coordinates student support and engagement activities, and recommends operational improvements that advance enrollment, retention, completion, and certification outcomes. Final academic exceptions, certification determinations, policy decisions, personnel decisions, and program or budget authority remain with designated University officials.
Academic Advising, Degree Planning, and Certification Progress
1. Provide proactive, comprehensive academic advising to Teacher Certification Pathways students through individual appointments, group advising sessions, virtual meetings, and planned outreach.
2. Develop and maintain individualized academic plans that align degree requirements, teacher-certification requirements, course sequencing, program milestones, and anticipated graduation timelines.
3. Monitor academic progress, enrollment status, certification milestones, and completion benchmarks and identify students who are off track for timely progression.
4. Explain approved program pathways, course schedules, academic requirements, certification steps, and available University resources to newly admitted, transfer, and continuing students.
5. Apply established University, state, accreditation, and Educator Preparation Program requirements to advising and progression questions and route exceptions or final certification determinations to the authorized faculty or program authority.
Student Success, Intervention, and Resource Coordination
6. Identify students experiencing academic, financial, personal, or administrative barriers; implement timely advising interventions within assigned authority; and coordinate referrals to appropriate University or community resources.
7. Provide student success coaching related to goal setting, persistence, accountability, academic planning, and completion while maintaining the distinction between advising and counseling or clinical services.
8. Respond to student inquiries and maintain timely follow-up while protecting confidentiality and complying with FERPA and University records requirements.
9. Coordinate advising-related orientations, information sessions, recruitment events, workshops, and other student-engagement activities for Teacher Certification Pathways students.
Data, Systems, Reporting, and Grant Support
10. Maintain accurate advising notes, student records, academic plans, milestone data, and progress documentation in PeopleSoft, Slate, Canvas, and other designated institutional systems.
11. Prepare recurring advising, enrollment, persistence, retention, completion, certification, and activity reports for program and grant reporting requirements.
12. Analyze student data and recurring trends, identify barriers or service gaps, and recommend operational strategies that support engagement, persistence, retention, completion, and certification outcomes.
13. Collect and maintain grant-required data, documentation, and outcome records and support timely program and sponsor reporting within assigned responsibility.
Collaboration, Assessment, and Continuous Improvement
14. Collaborate with faculty, certification personnel, academic departments, student-services offices, school-district partners, and other stakeholders to coordinate student progression and support.
15. Support program assessment, accreditation-related activities, special projects, and continuous-improvement initiatives by preparing records, data, summaries, and follow-up documentation.
16. Participate in departmental meetings, professional development, training, and University committees as assigned.

Required Qualifications
2. Two (2) years of professional experience supporting students in an educational setting, including academic advising, academic coaching, student success, educator preparation, or a closely related function.
3. Experience developing or maintaining academic plans, degree plans, certification plans, course-sequencing guidance, or comparable student-progression plans.
4. Experience monitoring student progress, documenting advising or student-service interactions, and maintaining confidential student records in a student information, advising, CRM, learning-management, or comparable system.
5. Experience interpreting and applying academic, program, certification, accreditation, regulatory, or comparable requirements within established policies.
6. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or comparable productivity applications.
Preferred Qualifications
2. Knowledge of Texas educator preparation requirements, teacher-certification processes, clinical teaching requirements, and Texas Education Agency regulations.
3. Experience using PeopleSoft, Slate, Canvas, or comparable student information, CRM, and learning-management systems.
4. Experience supporting first-generation, nontraditional, transfer, post-baccalaureate, adult, or other student populations requiring proactive advising and individualized support.
5. Experience preparing advising, enrollment, retention, completion, certification, grant, or student-success reports and using data to identify trends or recommend improvements.
6. Strong communication, organization, judgment, follow-through, relationship-building, problem-solving, and student-service skills.

Schedule
Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 – 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.
Standard Working Conditions
1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
