What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a dynamic and visionary manager to join our team at the forefront of nuclear weapons component development and realization. Innovation and agility are at the heart of our mission. In this pivotal role, you will provide leadership and oversight for the newly formed High Reliability Innovative Technologies and Surveillance department (7646). This department combines our surveillance, Science and Technology (S&T), Strategic Partnership Projects (SPP), and radiation characterization portfolios to be a heavily leveraged collaborative partner for the 7640 group. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your leadership skills as we transform our business model while fulfilling our current commitments.
You will lead a talented team of experts dedicated to identifying and evaluating nascent electronic component technologies for nuclear deterrence and other system designs. Your role will involve close collaboration with the 7640 management team and partners across the labs to effectively utilize component surveillance data and insights on emerging needs to guide our future component selection, design, and characterization techniques.
As the selected manager, you will also work alongside our team and subject matter experts to refine our radiation testing strategy for electronic components, ensuring they are utilized in a reliable, predictable, and repeatable manner.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Collaborate closely with 7640 managers to implement group-level strategies and initiatives for high reliability electronics portfolios.
- Support the team to meet commitments for a diverse collection of work.
- Support a multidisciplinary team as we expand our surveillance responsibilities.
- Co-develop, refine, and articulate a vision for the future needs of the Electronic Parts Program (EPP) and custom electronics, engaging with Sandia’s Advanced S&T community to bring this vision to fruition.
- Partner with components and systems teams, Sandia’s surety engineering, and Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) colleagues to ensure comprehensive technical characterization through testing, analysis, and modeling of selected electronic parts.
- Contribute to the development and execution of radiation testing strategies in collaboration with experts from Sandia’s Radiation and Electrical Science Center.
- Work across the organization to prepare the program for future technologies, support advanced and exploratory systems, and ensure that the operations, capabilities, and technical experts within the group are positioned for enduring success.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

About Our Team:
The High-reliability Electronic Components group (7640) is responsible for the characterization, development, production, procurement, surveillance, and qualification of high reliability electronic products for ND programs and other national security customers. The group is composed of subject matter experts who specialize in both custom and commercial products, and is home to the Electronic Parts Program, an integrated activity that identifies the future commercial technology needs of our customers and leads the efforts needed to ensure our design partners can use them with confidence. The group is changing the paradigm for electronic part use in ND systems. We are relentlessly focused on improving our systems, culture, structure, processes, and people to achieve world-class performance in our field.
Posting Duration:
This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.
Security Clearance:
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
