College/Department Information
The purpose of the Audit, Compliance, Ethics, and Risk Management department (ACERM)is to:
Identify and prioritize risks (positive and negative) to the organization and its mission and share risk-related data and information with the organization to inform tactical and strategic planning (Ethics & Risk Management);
Detect violations of law, regulation, and policy, and ensure the organization takes steps to correct such violations and implements controls reasonably designed to prevent recurring violations on a sustained basis (Compliance, Ethics, & Privacy);
Periodically audit and test controls and processes to measure and report on sustained adherence to prescribed rules (Internal Audit).
Promote the safety and well-being of students, Patients, faculty, staff, guests, and other constituents throughout the enterprise and its facilities (Environmental Health & Safety).
Job Summary
The Privacy Program Coordinator provides support to the Assistant Vice President of Ethics and Compliance. This position oversees processes and systems to ensure all privacy related concerns are registered, tracked, and appropriately investigated pursuant to all applicable laws, regulations and policies which govern privacy-related activities for Augusta University, affiliates, and other cooperative organizations.
Responsibilities
The duties include but are not limited to:
EDUCATION AND AWARENESS: Assist the AVP, Ethics & Compliance/Privacy Officer in evaluating, creating, and maintaining training resources on privacy regulations and requirements. Assist the AVP, Ethics & Compliance/Privacy Officer in ensuring appropriate regulatory notices, policies, and procedures and processes are implemented to protect confidential and regulated information. Supports the AVP, Ethics & Compliance/Privacy Officer to initiate, facilitate, and promote activities to foster information privacy awareness within the organization. Assists AVP, Ethics & Compliance/Privacy Officer in providing in person and/or online training to faculty, staff, and students on privacy rules and regulations.
PRIVACY AND SECURITY RESPONSE: Support the AVP, Ethics & Compliance/Privacy Officer in receiving, documenting, tracking, investigating, and taking corrective action on all reports of non-compliance with the organization's privacy policies and procedures, regulations, and laws. Responsible for accurate, complete, timely tracking of all privacy incidents, and breaches reported to Audit, Compliance, Ethics, and Risk Management (ACERM). Works cooperatively with units and departments on implementing corrective actions to correct deficiencies in processes and procedures.
INVESTIGATIONS AND ASSESSMENTS: Independently conducts investigations resulting from reports of violations of the organization's privacy and security policies, regulations, and state and federal laws. Under the direction of the AVP, Ethics & Compliance/Privacy Officer, create thorough and professional investigative reports of incidents. Assist AVP, Ethics & Compliance/Privacy Officer Conduct with assessments of process, procedures, and vendor contracts to ensure appropriate safeguards are applied when regulated, confidential, and /or sensitive data is involved.
REGULATORY: Knowledge of applicable privacy related laws such as FERPA, GPIPA, GDPR, and other laws pertaining to data use and protection. Assists the Chief Privacy Officer in the planning, design, and evaluation of the organization's privacy related projects. Supports the Chief Privacy Officer in their role to be liaison to regulatory and accrediting bodies for matters relating to privacy. Maintains awareness and shares knowledge on healthcare laws and regulations (federal and state) pertaining to patient privacy and determine whether modification or reviews of policies and procedures are needed. Assists AVP, Ethics & Compliance/Privacy Officer with coordination and participation in external reviews and/or investigations. Develops, implements and updates written privacy procedures. Supports the CPO to provide information in response to internal and external inquiries regarding enterprise privacy policies/procedures or notice of privacy practices. Conduct special investigations and special projects.
OTHER DUTIES: Perform other duties as determined needed of the department and directed by AVP, Ethics & Compliance/Privacy Officer.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Health, Research, Information Technology, or Business related field with a minimum of (5) years of experience in higher education, clinical, or research environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge of Health Insurance Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is preferred.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days (Monday - Friday); *Work outside of the normal business hours may be required for an exempt level position.*
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
