Job Summary
The MCG Savannah Clinical Campus is comprised of jointly administered clinical education programs in Savannah (at St. Joseph's/Candler Medical Center) and in Brunswick (at Southeast Georgia Health Center). The MCG Savannah Assistant Dean for Clinical Curriculum will provide support for the curricular and administrative programming across the campus. The Assistant Dean will report directly to the MCG Savannah Associate Dean for Curriculum. Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
  • Assume primary responsibility for locally administrating a geographically separated clinical campus that complies with all LCME expectations
  • Academic administrative oversight responsibility for MCG medical students rotating at MCG Savannah, including all clinical teaching sites and teaching faculty across the campus. Medical education program administration will be the primary responsibility, but this individual will also serve as a liaison for student affairs, student research, and voluntary faculty continuous professional development (CPD).
  • Work with the MCG Savannah Associate Dean to develop, implement, and
  • assess all clinical teaching experiences for MCG medical students at sites affiliated with MCG Savannah.
  • This individual will be responsible for the assessing and continuously improving
  • quality of the educational experiences at all MCG Savannah affiliated community teaching sites, based primarily on student evaluations and faculty feedback.

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Develop potential new clinical teaching sites in agreed-upon clerkship disciplines.
  • Work with MCG, the Georgia AHEC, and hospital affiliates to maintain on-going medical staff CPD in education skills for the voluntary clinical faculty members, including the annual Jekyll Island MCG Faculty Development Conference
  • Liaise with appropriate individuals to coordinate and oversee all aspects of the students' educational experience in region,
  • Collaborate with the leadership at MCG Savannah and relevant curriculum oversight committees to develop, implement, and evaluate & assess high quality clinical learning experiences
  • Interact closely with MCG students while they are on rotations with MCG Savannah. This includes meeting with each student and providing (or ensuring they receive) feedback on their performance, ensuring timely accurate completion of all evaluations, ensuring students' compliance with meeting the learning objectives & expectations of the rotations (e.g., electronic tracking of experiences, completing evaluations), and ensuring delivery of core curriculum content.
  • Develop and implement student support services that in alignment with MCG Savannah related to advising, counseling, and health care
  • Work with Georgia AHEC and the regional Health Systems to identify residential housing for students
  • Engage in educational scholarship related to development, implementation, and assessment of innovative educational programs
  • Regularly attend Curriculum Oversight Committee and Dean's staff meetings
  • Report annually on regional campus program progress, including operating costs and staffing support required, to assist in the development of an operating budget
  • Participate in the AAMC Group on Regional Medical Campuses (GRMC) activities, and in other medical education professional development meetings.

Required Qualifications
  • MD or DO; EdD or PhD terminal degree
  • Academic qualifications necessary for an MCG faculty appointment
  • Personal commitment to educational excellence
  • Enthusiasm to serve as a faculty role model as demonstrated by teaching and mentoring medical students, engaging in faculty development, and serving as an educational administrator
  • At least 5 years of experience in academic program administration at an LCME- accredited medical school; candidates with curriculum and/or program development experience preferred
  • Willingness and capacity to travel to site visit community teaching sites at an average 2 days/week, and to travel to Savannah weekly.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
Evidence of ability as a teacher;
Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter. Amount of time worked is based on work commitment.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is between 0.75 and 0.99 FTE. The FTE will be determined at the time of hire after discussions during the interview process with the successful candidate. Although this position is fully benefits eligible and can select from the robust University System of Georgia (USG) benefits package, this position is not considered full-time. Only positions at 1.0 FTE are considered full-time.
Assistant Professor: Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
