The Assistant Director will play a crucial role in guiding the Newhouse Information Computer Services (NICS) Group, shaping departmental strategies, and ensuring alignment with the organization’s overall technological objectives.
Qualifications
A bachelor degree in Engineering or equivalent technical and troubleshooting experience in the production field.
Minimum of 3 years production experience.
A strong technical knowledge of production, studio and field operations is required.
A working knowledge of media distribution models (social media, streaming) is desired.
Job Specific Qualifications
Expertise in imaging and deployment technologies for both Mac and PC platforms, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of system setup and configuration to ensure efficient enterprise-wide deployment strategies.
Proficient knowledge of Storage Area Network (SAN) services, with the ability to design, implement, and maintain scalable storage solutions that ensure data integrity and accessibility across the organization.
Familiarity with Imaging and Deployment Technologies, with a preference for those who have experience or knowledge of studio equipment, enhancing the capacity to support specialized departmental needs.
Strong foundation in team building, with proven experience in nurturing team dynamics that promote collaboration and productivity, paired with effective project management skills to lead complex IT initiatives from conception to completion.
Responsibilities
System Deployment and Strategy Development
Direct the strategic planning and execution of system deployment, ensuring the seamless assembly, installation, and configuration of hardware and software systems. Oversee the process for onboarding new users, aligning system setup with organizational IT policies and long-term objectives.

Remote Administration and Helpdesk Leadership
Lead the remote administration processes utilizing advanced tools like Apple Remote Desktop and Windows Remote Desktop. Mentor and manage the helpdesk team to provide exceptional phone support and to resolve complex technical issues with a focus on minimizing downtime and enhancing user satisfaction.

Operating System Strategy and Software Management:
Administer Mac OSX and Windows systems at an organizational level, ensuring cross-departmental proficiency with key software suites like Microsoft and Adobe. Strategically manage the Newhouse Information Computer Services (NICS) Group responsibilities for software deployment, updates, and user account security protocols.

Team Leadership and Organizational Development:
Champion the development of strong communication skills within the Newhouse Information Computer Services Group.
Enforce best practices and protocols, and develop initiatives for professional growth and skills enhancement of the team.
Represent the Executive Director in his absence.
Manage, lead and mentor unit staff. Cultivate a respectful, positive work culture that encourages collaboration and new ideas, where all employees feel heard, appreciated, and equally valued.
Establish clear goals and expectations. Effectively communicate with unit staff to provide regular constructive feedback and opportunities for improvement. Conduct annual Performance Partnership process to review progress, develop future goals, and identify professional development needs.
Model excellence by demonstrating professionalism, integrity and ethical behavior at all times. Enforce university and school policies, procedures, and cultural values.

Network Infrastructure and Scripting Oversight:
Provide high-level oversight for the configuration of workstation and server network interfaces. Support and supervise scripting and automation tasks to enhance operational efficiency and network reliability.
