Position Summary

The Vice President of Venture and Investment is a Senior position, a member of the CBO cabinet, and a thought partner to the broader organization. In this role, this critical individual to the Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship will have two key responsibilities: overseeing the design, development, and driving the execution of the Biotech Cluster; and strategically engaging and seeking funding for Moffitt portfolio assets and key investment projects. This externally focused role will drive Moffitt representation and leadership within the financial community at the global level.

Minimum Experience / Skills Required

  • Minimum of 25 years in the field of biopharma, strong scientific background and demonstrable business accomplishments.
  • Raised at least $50M through various transactions and business constructs. A global profile comfortable with different business cultures. Strong ethics to engage and succeed in markets with different business cultures.

Preferred Experience

  • Deep experience of the biopharma industry, ideally with startup experience and startup leadership roles, commercialization or marketing experience and / or corporate development roles with fund raising successes to support biotech-like portfolio development and company growth.
  • A prior Management consulting position at one of the leading consulting firms in Healthcare a strong plus
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to deliver complex business information in a structured and concise, easy to apprehend way
  • Comfortable with business models, program and projects planning, forecasts, program and asset valorizations and financial models. An individual who can illustrate the numbers with simple concepts and stories.
  • Strong knowledge of the financing activities, including legal constructs for new opportunities, financing options, cap tables and of the financing community - demonstrated ability to raise money with private investors (public markets a plus)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with limited structure
  • Self-starter who can organize work and anticipate issues with limited supervision
  • Strong Emotional Intelligence with the interest and ability to “read the teams”
  • Agility with a strong bias for action. Impeccable execution with an attention to details and timing.

Position Duties

  • Lead the refinement of Moffitt’s strategy for ventures with a focus on the biotech cluster. Collaborate closely with the executive team to ensure alignment and diligent execution of the biotech cluster plan.
  • In partnership with the CBO, plan, prepare and drive engagement of the different business partners to succeed in financing, designing, building and launching a new cGMP iCDMO. Act as the CEO of the iCDMO and eventually transition to the new Executive Team for the long-term operational management of the plant.
  • Identify, engage and nurture a network of potential investors. Prepare pitch decks and financing models for key business opportunities, with an initial focus on the iCDMO. Drive logistics and follow ups with potential financial backers to strategically maximize the opportunity for Moffitt. Engage broad financial community to establish a network of potential funders of Moffitt portfolio assets.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, Portfolio Strategy and the BD&L teams to develop comprehensive business cases for new product and service initiatives. Analyze financial projections, market potential, and risk factors to guide decision making. Nurture a network of investors by asset types and proactively communicate the Moffitt portfolio developments to these investors to quickly secure funding when the time is right for the program.
  • In partnership with the Portfolio Strategy Group, identify and evaluate potential strategic partnerships, acquisitions, and collaborations to enhance the company's portfolio and market positioning, with a focus on global markets. Inform Moffitt prioritization of assets for global markets and global investors, and ultimately drive execution of the global opportunities. This role is the face of Moffitt for global investors.
  • Provide strong leadership and mentorship to the portfolio strategy team. Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture, ensuring alignment with the broader organizational objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including finance, marketing, sales, operations, and R&D to ensure seamless execution of current and future ventures as well as the funding strategy.
