Facilities Services' responsibilities include Interior and Exterior Facilities Support, Construction, Space Management, and Environmental Services.
Job Summary
This position performs maintenance, diagnostic services, and repairs on Landscape/Grounds equipment.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Maintenance:
Performs preventative maintenance of grounds equipment by following manufacturers recommendations or using experience regarding oil changes, filter and belt replacements, blade sharpening or replacement, tune ups and parts replacements on all types of mowers, edgers, trimmers, chain saws, blowers, tractors, pressure washers, and similar grounds equipment.
Promotes preventative maintenance of grounds equipment by developing schedules, training employees on proper equipment operation and care, conducting routine inspections, performing necessary adjustments and repairs, and reporting equipment misuses or neglect to management.
Conducts field service calls when equipment fails on campus. Repairs equipment on site or coordinates how to get equipment back to the shop for repair, coordinates replacement piece of equipment if needed.
Ability to operate and service specialty equipment for golf course and athletic fields, including reel
mowers, maintain bedknife and reel grinding, aerifiers, sod cutters, large capacity sprayers, tractors, etc.
Repairs:
Inspects, troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic defects in all groundskeeping, landscaping, and golf course maintenance equipment.
Operate welding, grinding, sharpening, and fabrication equipment safely and effectively.
Coordinate warranty work and outside vendor repairs as needed.
Recordkeeping:
Maintain and order parts inventory for all types of equipment.
Maintain evolving inventory lists of equipment, tools, parts, and accessories.
Maintains appropriate maintenance records on all repairs and preventative maintenance to track issues with equipment.
Tracks equipment hours, services performed, and repairs completed.
Maintains equipment, shop, work sites, and offices in clean, organized, and professional manner.
Administrative:
Assists management with procurement process by contacting vendors and suppliers for quotes on parts, supplies, and equipment.
Operate computer programs necessary to perform research on equipment manuals, service manuals, parts breakdown diagrams, schematics, and vendor contact information.
Utilize computerized tracking systems to tracks repairs, costs, labor hours, and equipment operating hours.
Utilize Work Management Program to complete work orders as required.
Communicate with dealer and service representatives to maintain positive working relationships.
Considers budget when making decisions in daily operations.
Safety:
Safely operates University vehicles while picking up or delivering parts and equipment by obeying applicable traffic laws and following operator instructions.
Obtains, maintains, and uses all personal protective equipment and ensures safe working order.
Trains staff on proper equipment operation and safe operating procedures.
Miscellaneous:
Assist Grounds crew with event setup, storm cleanup, or other duties when needed.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
High School diploma or GED from a state or federal accredited organization with three (3) years' experience in equipment repair and maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Experience working with working with landscaping equipment and small engines.
Prior experience working on golf course equipment or machinery.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
ABILITIES
Strong attention to detail, judgment, and discretion with confidential information.
Ability to work independently and as a team.
Accurately prepare work orders, forms, complete record keeping, and utilize tracking software.
KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other computer software/databases.
Basic principles and practices of inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of small engines.
Knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines, equipment used for landscaping and athletic field maintenance, techniques of maintenance equipment operation, shop tools and equipment used in repairs, and occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
SKILLS
Excellent verbal/written communication skills and interpersonal skills.

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position

Conditions of Employment
