Pay Range: $94,375.00 - $153,355.00 / Yearly

Unit Details:
The Unit for Neuroscience Nursing is a 20-bed acute care unit that provides comprehensive treatment plans and advanced post-surgical care for patients with neurological and spine disorders like epilepsy and glioblastomas. This unit also treats Neuro patients undergoing ketamine infusion therapy and those who have an externalized shunt or lumbar drain. Nurses on this unit have a unique opportunity to participate in a team nursing care model that partners each nurse with one patient care technician (PCT), which allows nurses to practice at the top of their scope and provide the highest quality of care and overall patient experience. Job Description:
General Responsibilities To direct operations of specific, inpatient nursing unit(s) with scope score range from 20 to 29 as defined in the UAB Medicine Nurse Manager Recruitment and Retention Plan. To ensure quality patient care, competent and responsible personnel, cost efficiency and effective utilization of unit resources to support the values and goals of UAB Hospital. To promote satisfaction and effective communication with patients/families, staff, physicians and other departments, promote staff development, and schedule nursing staff. To be responsible for 24-hour, 7 days a week unit coverage. To interview and recommend hiring of qualified candidates, ensure orientation of new staff, evaluate performance of staff, recommend staff promotion, discipline, and conduct terminations as necessary. To develop annual budget for unit(s), detail needs for capital equipment and personnel resources, and complete special projects or assignments as requested. Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Assists upper management in development, implementation and evaluation of ongoing service programs that ensure quality nursing and patient care programs consistent with the hospital's mission.

2. Consults with patients/families through primary RN request, direct family request or direct assessment of patient/family response to hospitalization.

3. Develops collaborative working relationships with department heads, physicians and other resources/support personnel providing services to the unit and patients as evidenced by observation. Oversees ongoing development of staff and unit-specific patient care programs.

4. Assesses patient/significant other survey responses regarding nursing care and services. Identifies problems affecting service and implements solutions with follow-through and communication.

5. Monitors/maintains unit compliance with regulatory, accrediting and hospital policy for patient services and environmental and personnel safety.

6. Utilizes appropriate resources within the institution to provide consultation, education, technical or informational services as needed for self, staff and patients.

7. Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree in Nursing with Master's degree in Nursing or a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Licenses / Certifications / Registrations Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
