Job Summary
Augusta University seeks an Associate Vice President (AVP) for Philanthropy. The AVP for Philanthropy position reports to the Vice President (VP) for Development and will function as a key member of the Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement (PAE) senior leadership team to develop and implement strategies to engage, solicit and steward donors of Augusta University. This position will be responsible for all management facets of Health Sciences major giving programs to include: Medical College of Georgia (MCG), Dental College of Georgia (DCG), Georgia Cancer Center (GCC), College of Nursing (CON), College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS), School of Public Health (SPH) and the Graduate School (TGS), as well as overseeing related Foundation and Corporation major giving strategies and efforts. In addition to these management and leadership responsibilities, the Associate Vice President will maintain a portfolio of major and leadership gift prospects and personally secure philanthropic support of Augusta University.
Responsibilities
Directs the Health Sciences teams of fundraisers (MCG, DCG, GCC, CON, CAHS, SOPH, TGS) to include providing guidance on strategy, setting metrics and helping guide toward success of these goals, working with the deans and other unit leadership to keep apprised of strategy and involved in donor engagement and stewardship, and attending key alumni and donor events.25%
Works closely with the Vice President for Development and the PAE leadership team in support of the comprehensive campaign and overall PAE strategy for Augusta University. Assist with campaign plan, as well as strategy development and implementation. 25%
Maintains an active donor portfolio and works directly with individual and corporate/foundation donors to the university in the Health Sciences areas with gifts of $100,000 or more and engages in visits and other contacts with key donors, as well as stewardship. Serves as key member of Principal Gifts team. Works closely with MCG Foundation and AU Foundation to steward donors and reports progress and updates to both foundation boards.25%
Collaborates with PAE senior leadership to set strategic goals, monitors performance and evaluates results to
ensure that unit goals are met and in line with AU's overall vision to include coordination with annual giving, alumni engagement, donor engagement, and gift and estate planning integration.20%

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 10 years of experience in higher education or non-profit
organization, specifically, experience in personally identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding private philanthropic gifts. Demonstrative
success closing multiple gifts of $250,000 or more and experience in managing major gift officers.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university. Bachelor's or master's degree in marketing or communications or related field.
15 or more years major gift fundraising experience in higher education or non-profit organization, specifically experience in personally identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding private philanthropic gifts.
Demonstrative success in closing multiple gifts of $500,000 or more and proven experience in managing major gift officers.
Proven experience and success in higher education health sciences related fundraising area (medicine dental, nursing, public health, allied health, etc)
Technical Proficiency: Proficient in computer software including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe, and DocuSign with a high competency in Excel and database management.
Experience with programs such as Raiser's Edge, ODDER, and ThankView is highly desirable.
Confidentiality & Discretion: Skilled at handling sensitive information and navigating confidential or challenging situations.
Organization & Attention to Detail: Demonstrates exceptional organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines. Maintains a keen eye for detail and precision, ensuring accuracy in formatting, documentation, and task execution.
Professional Communication: Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with expertise in grammar, editing, and crafting professional documents as well as the ability to engage effectively to foster positive relationships with donors, team members, and the public.
Self-Motivation & Initiative: Highly self-motivated, demonstrating the ability to work independently, anticipate needs, and proactively address challenges with minimal supervision. Exhibits strong decision-making skills and a resourceful approach to problem-solving.
Time Management & Adaptability: Demonstrates exceptional time management skills and adaptability, effectively balancing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment ensuring critical projects are completed on time while consistently maintaining the highest quality standards.
