Ball State University Libraries is searching for an energetic, detail-oriented person to join our committed and highly-engaged team of Metadata and Digital Initiatives staff, responsible for evaluating, describing, and codifying a variety of digital assets for inclusion in University Libraries Digital Media Repository, a full-text searchable database of over 260,000 digital assets in over 340 collections of primary source materials and learning objects. Job Function:
Evaluate, describe, and codify digital assets for inclusion in the University Libraries' online digital resource collections to facilitate user discovery of digital content that supports research, teaching, and learning; support an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative work environment and service culture to advance the strategic direction of the University Libraries.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Minimum Experience:
Over one year of related experience.
Preferred Experience:
Library cataloging or archival experience; experience with metadata, controlled vocabularies and/or object description; experience with repositories and/or content management systems; experience with digitization equipment, best practices, and processes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze and describe digital artifacts (video, audio, still image, text or other type), including the creation of new standards-based metadata records and subject assignment based on controlled vocabularies.
- Organize, evaluate, and codify digital materials, including the adaptation or normalization of existing descriptive data (e.g., scientific or archival databases) for new or existing collections.
- Prepare and manage resources for on- or off-site digitization, collect descriptive data, and create/modify digital objects as needed.
- Execute other aspects of digital project workflow (e.g., digitization, quality control, OCR processing, or transcription) as needed.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
