Tennessee State University (TSU) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Financial Aid Assistant to join our team. The Financial Aid Office reports to the Vice President for Business and Finance. This role is pivotal in providing exceptional customer service and support to students, parents, and staff regarding financial aid inquiries and processes. The ideal candidate will possess strong problem-solving skills, a friendly demeanor, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Serve as the first point of contact for students, parents, and visitors in the Financial Aid Office, providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
· Respond to inquiries in-person, via phone, and through email, addressing questions about financial aid programs, application processes, eligibility, and deadlines.
· Assist students in completing financial aid forms and provide guidance on required documentation.
· Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial aid policies and procedures to provide accurate information.
· Coordinate and schedule appointments for financial aid counselors, ensuring efficient use of resources and timely follow-up.
· Manage front desk operations.
· Process incoming and outgoing mail, documents, and electronic communications in a timely manner.
· Maintain organized records and files related to student inquiries and financial aid applications.
· Collaborate with team members to identify and resolve issues, enhancing the overall student experience.
· Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Previous experience in an administrative or customer service role, preferably in a higher education or financial aid setting.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong emphasis on customer service.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to handle sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with financial aid software systems is a plus.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize workload effectively in a busy office environment.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
