Job Description

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in Accounting or a related field; or the equivalent work experience (4+ years of demonstrated, progressive work experience in budget/accounting roles)
Experience in accounting
Experience in budgeting, internal controls, and general administration.
Experience with Excel, and preferably Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (Banner)
Ability to lead and exercise sound judgment, high level of organizational skills, high ethical standards and strong work ethic, commitment to high performance and accountability.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.

This position is primarily a Boone location position.
Flexible remote schedules may be available for this position up to 2 days a week after a training period.

Preferred Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in Accounting or a related field
Experience in Not-for-Profit or Governmental accounting
4 years of progressive accounting and/or budget management experience
Experience with Excel and Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (Banner)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
*Financial Monitoring and Analysis (60%):
Daily/As Needed:
Enter positive pay for check batches.
Prepare entries for stock gifts.
Maintain schedules for Leases and Software Subscriptions, including GASB 87 and GASB 96 calculations.
Accounts payable processes including travel reimbursements, purchasing cards, and direct payments.
Monthly:
Complete the monthly reconciliations and transactions including interest income, debt and interest expense, and investment activity.
Perform month-end close processing.
Quarterly:
Complete the quarterly entries for vehicle mileage, gift annuities and others as necessary.
Reconcile related party transactions between the Foundation and the University.
Prepare a Cash Flow report.
Assist in the preparation of Board Reports.
General / Annual:
Departmental reporting.
Assist with the preparation of audited financial statements including year-end Pledge adjustments, Gift Annuities Adjustments and Trust Schedules.
Assist with the preparation of IRS Form 990 supporting schedules.
Update and analysis of processes and procedures.
Assist with implementation of new systems and processes, and inter-departmental communications and training.
Budget Related Duties:
Monitor Advancement division budgets, providing monthly budget reconciliation and reporting for State funds, and oversight of Foundation funds
Assist with preparing, reviewing and administering the Foundation’s annual operating budget

Professional Knowledge (15%):
Knowledge of the following: Banner Finance and reporting tools, approved uses of various types of funding sources, and Excel
Understanding of nonprofit and/or government accounting
Apply knowledge of accounts, funds, Banner and correlated systems to transactional and reporting duties to foster continuous improvement
Apply knowledge of GAAP, tax and other regulations to evaluate compliance and prepare reports.

Decision Making (10%):
Participate in problem-resolution efforts regarding budget and accounting issues
Independently identify and resolve accounting and budgeting issues.

* Communication and Interpersonal Skills (15%):
Discuss budget, accounting and accounts payable questions as needed with University Advancement and other departments
Communicate clearly and effectively with University Advancement administrative staff regarding accounting and budgeting processes and policies
