Augusta University's newly formed School of Public Health invites applications for a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor, in the Department of Health Management, Economics, and Policy (HMEP). HMEP seeks a leader with a demonstrated track record of excellence in research, teaching, and service related to the disciplines housed within the department. HMEP prefers to recruit at the Associate or full Professor level; however, Assistant Professor rank is also available. Appointment will be commensurate with experience. Depending on experience and track record, this faculty member may have the opportunity to serve as the founding Director of a new groundbreaking research center housed in the School of Public Health, shaping the center's direction based on the faculty member's research strengths and interests.
HMEP seeks a collegial academic leader with a passion for mentorship and excellent interpersonal skills to build a program of research within our research-intensive academic health center. Responsibilities include:
- Provide energetic leadership in support of the mission and goals of the school and university.
- Establish and grow a rigorous, extramurally-funded program of research.
- Enhance the national recognition of the School of Public Health and Augusta University.
This individual will have the opportunity to leverage the School of Public Health's current research relationships with several underserved and underprivileged communities, including those in rural areas. They will also be well-positioned to collaborate with other preeminent faculty in the School of Public Health, in the Georgia Cancer Center and within the Medical College of Georgia.
Research areas of interest include but are not limited to public health policy, policy evaluation, dissemination and implementation science, health economics, and other broadly defined areas of public health policy and management.
Responsibilities
- 75% research- Conduct research in the faculty member's disciplinary area. Publish in top-tier peer-reviewed journals relevant to Public Health science or practice, present at professional meetings, and mentor student research. Seek and maintain external funding that can sustain a growing research program.
- 10% center director- Strategically plan and effectively manage the center operations. Conceive, implement, and grow the image of the center.
- 10% teaching- Teach up to one course per year within one of the graduate programs of the School of Public Health or participate in other educational initiatives offered by the school.
- 5% service- Provide service to the academic department, school, and university through participation in faculty meetings or committee service. Provide service to the profession through involvement in professional organizations, as a reviewer of manuscript journals, or as a peer-review panel for grant applications.
Required Qualifications
PhD or DrPH in Public Health, Health Policy and Management, Health Services Research, or a closely related field. Applicants must also have a strong track record of extramurally-funded research and excellence in teaching and mentoring.
Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member.
Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience. Per Board of Regents (BOR) policy, Professors must have a terminal degree.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience are strongly preferred.

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

College/Department Information
The Department of Health Management, Economics and Policy (HMEP) is one of three departments in the newly formed School of Public Health. This highly interdisciplinary department includes faculty with backgrounds and research interests in Public Health, Health Economics, Ethics, Health Informatics, e-Health, Biomedical Innovation, and Law. The faculty primarily teach in the MPH and Applied Health Sciences PhD programs. Faculty within the HMEP department are highly collaborative with other faculty in the School of Public Health as well as with other colleges and research centers across the university. Several faculty have established research collaborations with international partners.
