College/Department Information
The Immunology Center of Georgia (IMMCG) represents a new initiative by the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University to leverage the ability of the immune system to combat disease. The IMMCG will accomplish this by assembling teams of biomedical researchers with strong records of scientific innovation and technological development. The IMMCG will be co-directed by world-class immunologists Drs. Catherine `Lynn' Hedrick and Klaus Ley, both of whom have made major discoveries linking immune cells to specific mechanisms of disease. The goal of the IMMCG is to produce novel and effective treatments for conditions that heavily impact the communities of Georgia and the United States. The new center is aggressively recruiting faculty and staff to lead projects focused on cardiovascular disease, obesity and metabolic disorders, autoimmune and infectious disease, neurodegenerative disease and cancer.
Job Summary
The Postdoctoral Fellow in the Rasheed Lab will work as part of a dynamic team at the Medical College of Georgia and lead research projects focused on metabolic adaptations of the microenvironment in the regulation of hematopoiesis during cardiovascular disease. This project will employ in vitro and in vivo approaches requiring but not limited to the following techniques: cell culture (transfection/transduction), basic molecular biological techniques (ie. QPCR, Western blotting), some management of animal colonies, animal handling & dissection, histological analysis, microscopy and flow cytometry. A training position designed to learn, through engagement, in an advanced level of scientific, technical and administrative work in support of research efforts in our research laboratory. Candidates will be expected to participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols; develop and execute new research techniques and procedures; publish results in scientific journals; and participate in mentorship of junior trainees.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead project design and development, including the use of research protocols that adhere to the principles of scientific conduct & integrity, as well as compliance with federal and granting agency guidelines. Analyze and critically interpret results of experiments using the appropriate tools/software.
  • Troubleshoot, learn, and perform the aforementioned required experimental techniques as necessary.
  • Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects. Attend and present findings at research meetings locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Compose original research articles based on research activities. Contribute to review articles or commentary/perspective articles produced by the laboratory.
  • Strongly encouraged to seek additional opportunities to attain intra- and extramural funding for postdoctoral fellowship, including stipends from funding agencies (i.e. NIH & AHA), as well as awards for independent research activities (i.e. K99).
  • Provide supervision, mentorship and support to other trainees and research staff in the laboratory. Participate in collaborative studies with other laboratories.

Required Qualifications
Ph.D. degree from an accredited college or university
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to maintain confidentiality; Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
