Job Description

The Stephenson School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME) in the Gallogly College of Engineering at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting Fall 2025. We seek a highly collaborative researcher specializing in cancer ImmunoEngineering, including areas such as immunotherapy, cancer vaccines, CAR-T cell therapy, immune modulation, imaging-guided therapies, biomaterials for immunotherapy, and AI/machine learning in cancer diagnostics and therapeutics. This position aligns with SBME's strategic focus on ImmunoEngineering, complementing existing strengths in nanomedicine, peptide engineering, optical bioimaging, and drug delivery. Competitive candidates will be effective communicators who value translational research, are committed to excellence in teaching, and contribute positively to our collaborative community.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent, externally funded research program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biomedical engineering, and mentor students. SBME’s mission is to educate the next generation of biomedical engineers and to create new technologies that advance human health. Founded in 2016, SBME is committed to undergraduate and graduate education, offering B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. programs in Biomedical Engineering. We moved into the new Gallogly Hall in 2019, providing state-of-the-art lab spaces for faculty and students. Our faculty of 15 works with approximately 264 undergraduates and 41 graduate students.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral Degree: A Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Immunoengineering, or a closely related field.                                   
  • Research Excellence: Demonstrated expertise in cancer ImmunoEngineering with a strong commitment to research, with the potential to develop a strong record of external grant funding.
  • Commitment to Education and Teaching: Experience in teaching at the undergraduate level; demonstration of independent teaching experience is desirable. 

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Effective Communication Skills: Demonstrated ability to communicate research and teaching concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.                                                                                                                                                
  • Community Engagement: Interest in participating in community outreach or educational programs that enhance the visibility and impact of SBME.                                                                                                                                                    
  • Engagement with Strategic Partnerships: Interest in leveraging collaborations with SBME’s partners—such as the OU Health Sciences Center (OUHSC), OU Health, the Institute for Biomedical Engineering, Science and Technology (IBEST), the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF), the Laureate Institute for Brain Research (LIBR), and others—to enhance research and educational initiatives.
  • Translation and Innovation: Experience in entrepreneurship and innovation, such as involvement in patent applications, startups, commercialization of research, or collaborations with industry partners. Familiarity with FDA processes and regulations is advantageous. Formal training or participation in programs focused on translating research into clinical or commercial applications is highly valued, along with an interest in leveraging collaborations with SBME’s strategic partners to enhance initiatives.
