Job Function:

Operate Ball State University buses to transport students, faculty, staff, and personnel on the shuttle run or other dispatched runs.

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)

Minimum Experience:

1. At least six months of verified professional driving experience.
2. Must demonstrate ability to drive bus (on-site driving test).
3. Must possess and maintain a valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) with an endorsement for public passengers and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.
4. Must possess a good driving record; verification through Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
5. Must pass a post offer/pre-employment mandatory drug and alcohol test.
6. Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty.

Preferred Experience:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate passenger buses, shuttles, vans and paratransit units on various routes as established by the Transportation Office.
  • Inspect buses and report any equipment malfunctions; maintain cleanliness of vehicles.
  • Fuel daily and inspect bus for any exterior damage.
  • Maintain contact with Transportation Office when necessary via radio and/or telephone; inform office of changes in location, delays, traffic problems, emergencies, etc.
  • Maintain accurate records of mileage and number of passengers; complete various trip sheets and logs for each assigned task.
  • Assist and direct disabled individuals on and off vehicles as needed.
  • Report any problems with routes and make recommendations for changes when appropriate.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
