General Information:
The Department of Philosophy and Religion at JMU is seeking a passionate, detail-oriented professional to support our teaching and research missions. The Department is home to 23 full-time faculty and 11 part-time faculty. Our teaching contributions include two majors, five minors, and more than 6,000 general education seats per year, as well as contributions to numerous interdisciplinary minors. The successful candidate will provide administrative support for all the department’s endeavors, including budgets and purchasing, classroom scheduling management, human resources support, event planning, communications, and serving as building coordinator for Cleveland Hall.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Serve as fiscal tech for all department accounts.
• Provide administrative assistance to unit head and faculty, including responding to inquiries, completing and maintaining forms, files, and records, obtaining data from Student Administration and other JMU data systems, and processing faculty requests for scanning, copying, etc.
• Manage class schedules and enrollment.
• Process hiring, onboarding, and separation paperwork.
• Enter information into PageUp, JMU’s applicant tracking system, for hiring processes.
• Hire, train, and supervise student employees.
• Serve as building coordinator for Cleveland Hall.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to learn new technology platforms.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Demonstrated high level of professionalism.
Additional Considerations
• Previous experience in an administrative or office role, especially in higher education, is beneficial but not required.
• Experience with JMU systems, particularly PeopleSoft and PageUp, is beneficial but not required.
