Summary
The Accounts Payable Manager will lead the Accounts Payable team to ensure invoices for goods/services are processed timely and according to all applicable rules and regulations. This leadership position will oversee the Supplier Invoice Payment process, assist with supplier inquiries and compliance concerns, review credit memos, provide credit memo follow-up, investigate invoicing errors, lead complex disputes, and develop outreach/communication for supplier invoice procedures.
Example of Duties
Supervise accounts payable specialists - hiring, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
Develop and implement coaching, training, and growth plans with regular one-on-one meetings to support employee development.
Oversee daily operations, prioritize tasks, balance workloads, and set deadlines to meet team and organizational goals.
Recognize and reward strong performance, addressing customer service feedback to enhance service quality.
Leverage expertise in Workday and CRM platforms (e.g., ServiceNow, Auditoria) to optimize accounts payable processes and team efficiency.
Collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams to identify and communicate process improvements or strategic changes.
Foster a positive team culture through meetings, events, and engagement initiatives.
Advise management on accounts payable procedures and resolve invoicing or payment issues using independent judgment.
Provide internal/external training on accounting systems and practices, both in writing and verbally.
Communicate with suppliers and customers on complex issues or special projects.
Level Guidelines
• Aware of key annual objectives of department or work unit
• Understands linkage between daily activities and achievement of annual objectives of department/work unit and explains to direct reports
• Focus on ISU’s mission and meeting department or work unit goals
• Supervises a small department or work team
• Often is a working supervisor with direct, previous experience performing work of those supervised
• Has full management responsibility for direct reports, specifically the authority to hire, fire, and counsel; may share part of responsibility with higher level management
• Requests approval for financial actions beyond a limited scope per policy
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
This position will be housed on-site at Iowa State University with the opportunity for hybrid work. The employee must reside in the state of Iowa on or before the start of employment.
