Job Description
Job Purpose
The Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, invites applications for full-time faculty positions at the level of Assistant/Associate Professor commencing Spring 2024-2025.
The candidate should have a Ph.D. in one of the disciplines of Environmental Health Sciences/Science with an outstanding record of academic and research performance.
Main accountabilities & expectations
Teach a range of core courses related to environmental health sciences in general including environmental impact assessment, vector control, advanced research methodology, and environmental health risk assessment for undergraduate and graduate students.
Coordinate field training courses for senior undergraduate students.
Supervise senior and graduate students in their graduation projects and dissertations.
Actively engage in research and community service.
Evaluate students' learning using various methods of assessments.
Advise students on academic matters.
Actively participate in departmental assignments and student activities as assigned by the department chair or college dean.
Serve on department, faculty and university committees as appointed or elected.
Required Skills
Fluency in English at the general and professional levels is essential.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Very good computer skills (Microsoft Office applications, learning management systems).
Excellent professional writing skills (research proposal, scientific monographs, scientific reports, etc.) and presentation skills.
Strong interpersonal skills that can produce effective professor-student interactions.
Behavioral competencies in terms of adaptability, decisiveness, initiatives, perseverance, organizational skills, stress management and valuing profession and diversity.
QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate should have a Ph.D. in one of the disciplines of Environmental Health Sciences.
Minimum 3 years' experience of teaching in the field.
Experience in teaching courses related to environmental health science and pollution control.
Evidence of active contributions to his/her field through publishing in internationally recognized and peer-reviewed journals and participating in conferences, seminars, and other forums.
Has experience in credit hour system.
