Position Overview:
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) at the University of Minnesota is seeking an
experienced cloud network engineer to support the development and implementation of cloud technologies that advance our core mission of academics, research, and outreach. Candidates should have full lifecycle experience with hybrid clouds including: architecture/design, build, and ongoing operational support. This is an exciting opportunity to define and operationalize cloud services in Azure, Google Cloud, and/or AWS through robust automation and CI/CD pipelines.

supporting an environment of trust, collaboration, and mission-focused work.
Job Responsibilities:
Advocate for and implement standardized cloud networking architecture tailored to the University's unique environment.
Serve as the primary connector between the traditional network team and the cloud team, facilitating collaboration and understanding.
Provide deep technical expertise and guidance on cloud network design, deployment, and maintenance.
Promote the value and importance of cloud integration within the broader scope of the University's network strategy.
Design and implement virtual private cloud (VPC) networks using cloud-native peering and traditional routing protocols
Work alongside other cloud engineers to design, automate, and support Infrastructure Landing Zones in our various public cloud providers (i.e. Azure, AWS, GCP, & OCI)
Develop detailed technical processes and supporting documentation for cloud services
Lead troubleshooting and service restoration efforts for cloud services
Configure and fine-tune monitoring, alerting, and event management for cloud network services
Plan and execute code upgrades for cloud network services
Work with product owner and architect to define technical deliverables for requests and features based on internal stakeholder needs using Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and
agile processes

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of related experience OR Master's degree plus at least 2 years of experience.
Strong network engineering experience (Cisco route/switch, firewall, load balancing, DNS)
Cloud networking experience in one or more platforms: Azure, AWS, Google, on-premise cloud
Strong scripting skills (ability to write Bash script, Python, Terraform, etc.)
Familiar with infrastructure as code concepts using CI/CD pipelines (development, staging and production).
Experience in creating training materials and educating team members as well as technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience migrating legacy applications to cloud environments while adhering to cloud native standards.
Cisco CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+, or other network certifications
Experience with FortiNet Firewalls or other Enterprise Firewalls
Experience with cloud-native DNS services
Experience using network protocol analyzers such as Wireshark for troubleshooting
Experience with log analysis, monitoring, alerting, and event management
