Head Softball Coach/PE Coordinator


Job Description
This position will serve as the head coach of the varsity softball team. Additional administrative duties include responsibility for the required physical education curriculum, which provides opportunities for participants to develop lifelong habits that will enhance the quality of life.


Essential Duties Summary
ESSENTIAL
  1. Manage all aspects of the softball program including practices, competitions and recruiting.
  2. Hire and supervise a part-time assistant coach.
  3. Demonstrate a sincere interest in the social, emotional, and academic development, as well as the athletic welfare, of student-athletes
  4. Develop and schedule the physical education (PE) curriculum.
  5. Continuously assess PE courses through observation, attendance records and end of semester surveys.
  6. Report PE credits earned for all students.
  7. Serve as an event administrator for varsity competitions as needed in the fall semester.
  8. Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, administrators and alumni

MARGINAL
  1. Attend Athletic Department staff meetings.
  2. Attend all meetings of the Skyline Conference related to softball.
  3. Attend Open Houses and other Admissions events related to the recruitment of prospective students when appropriate.


Required Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

1. Education and Training
  • Bachelor’s degree in Sport Administration or Physical Education (or related field) is required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Completion of the NCAA DIII Rules test on an annual basis is required.
  • Ongoing certification in CPR/First Aid/AED is required
  • Nationally recognized strength and conditioning certification is a bonus but not required.

2. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities, or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities:
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations related to recruiting.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing, using the English language, for completion of staff expectations, and in creating documents throughout Department of Athletics and Physical Education and the campus.
  • Ability/willingness to work extended hours/flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and vacation periods as necessary.
  • Ability to use a computer, keyboard and printer as necessary.

3. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Ability to work extended hours/flexible schedule.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to drive.
  • Ability to walk several flights of stairs, and/or attend meetings in other buildings located on or off-campus.
  • Visual and hearing ability to perform all required duties related to the position.

4. Complexity

Individual requires the ability to effectively balance time between administrative and coaching duties. Ability to work autonomously toward department priorities is essential.

5. Interpersonal/Supervisory/Management Skills
Individual must be knowledgeable and confident, able to think clearly and make decisions; must be able to assist in the management of a complex department that serves multiple stakeholders.
