Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Bursar Accounting Systems, this position is responsible for assisting in the daily accounting operations of the Bursar’s Office, particularly in the areas of revenue and other financial reconciliation, month-end processing, preparing of journal entries, and audit work paper preparation and other related accounting operation activities.
Perform professional accounting duties involving the application of accounting theory, principles and practices; research and analyze accounting records to identify and resolve errors; verify and post a variety of financial transactions; provide guidance and work direction to other accounting personnel.
Provide functional and technical assistance to Bursar staff, students, parents, and/or other university staff. Help resolve discrepancies related to student and university accounts.
Take a lead role in preparing, maintaining, recording and approving payments for student fees and departmental revenue from various sources in the University accounts receivable and finance systems (Banner). Develop solid understanding of the University policies and activities and work with other areas to provide cash management oversight to ensure revenue is recorded accurately and in compliance with University and the State of WV polices and regulations.
Research account discrepancies and prepare and/or post correcting entries in the University Accounts Receivable system (Banner). Prepare reconciliations of a variety of financial data including bank accounts and merchant card accounts. Compile and verify the accuracy and validity of complex accounting transactions, often requiring in-depth analysis and resolution.
Assist in developing and documenting internal controls and policies. Provide explanations, documentation and support for external auditors related to university financial statements and uniform A-133 single audit for federal funds.
Salary Range $45,700 - $59,400- Salary is commensurate with experience and internal equity

Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or closely related Business Degree.
Experience
1+ years of progressive accounting experience.
Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.
Strong ability to research, analyze, and problem solve.
Strong working knowledge in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook.
Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple tasks.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with ability to successfully collaborate with others.
Preferred Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Experience
3+ years of progressive accounting experience.
Knowledge and experience in higher education student business office procedures.
Progressively responsible experience in a higher education student accounting area.
Advanced knowledge & experience working with university student systems; such as Banner or TouchNet and reporting software; such as ARGOS.
Demonstrated supervisory experience.
