Salary: Grade 8 (£45,585 - £54,395 p.a depending on experience) 

This role is based in Nexus, University of Leeds, with the expectation that 3 days a week will be spent on campus. We will consider flexible working arrangements

The University of Leeds, a distinguished Russell Group, research-intensive university, is committed to a step change in its collaboration with business, as set out in ‘Strategy 2020-2030: Universal Values, Global Change’.  This transformative journey, led by the Pro-Vice Chancellor (PVC): Business Engagement & Enterprise (BE&E), envisages Leeds as one of the most outwardly-engaged and entrepreneurial universities, collaborating with private and public organisations to further our real-world impact while diversifying our income. 

The emerging BE&E approach has an accompanying interim strategy and which includes the establishment of a Business Engagement Team and development programme, running experimental pilot projects across the university. Projects are focussed on creating new commercial products for business customers, in new delivery models for the University. Themes include bespoke training courses and professional learning, contract services and academic consultancy. Lessons from those projects will drive the production of the full five-year strategy and investment case in 2025, with a continuing programme of change to implement it. 

Reporting to the Director of Business Engagement, the Programme Manager will be responsible for leading our programme approach, providing the change/delivery governance for several streams of interdependent work; the pilot projects, our strategy development (including pre-programme awareness-raising with academics and professional services), future programme discovery/design You will coordinate the delivery of these and any other projects that arise in a busy portfolio, and manage the interfaces of those change agendas with wider programmes in the university. You will ensure activity is planned and scheduled realistically, ensuring we deliver with the pace and rigor needed to assemble the evidence that will inform our future approach. 

The role offers a unique opportunity for professional growth within a new and influential team, supporting senior leaders across the University and contributing significantly to the transformation of our business engagement.

You’ll have significant experience of successfully managing major projects and programmes, from inception through to completion, ensuring application of best practice methodologies/techniques. You’ll have strong stakeholder engagement experience and demonstrate highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.  You will also be able to demonstrate an ability to work effectively with multiple project teams in an overlapping portfolio, taking ownership across the different project and programme management elements, to bring all the various strands together to create a single coherent over-arching programme plan and associated reports.
