Assist with all aspects of NCAA Division I men's basketball program, including student-athlete recruitment, on floor coaching, monitoring academic progress, and on court development. Must comply with all NCAA and Saint Mary's College rules, regulations and by-laws. Other duties will be assigned by the Head Coach, which may include summer camps, donors, community service involvement and on campus involvement.
1.) Assist with organizing practices and intercollegiate competitions. Teach necessary fundamental basketball skills and strategies of team play. Assist with strength and conditioning and athletic training.
2.) Promote and foster a positive team environment, appropriate behavior, and sportsmanship by team members
3.) Coordinate and monitor the academic performance of team members
4.) Assist with evaluating and recruitment of prospective student-athletes. This includes the documentation in software, assigned phone calls, emails and written correspondence. Daily networking with high school coaches, club coaches, and junior college coaches. Assist w/ on and off campus visits of prospects.
5.) Work diligently to promote men's basketball program to surrounding communities. Work with campus groups to promote men's basketball program amount students, faculty and staff.
6.) Know, recognize, and comply with the laws, policies, rules and regulations governing the College and its employees, and the rules of the NCAA (including, but not limited to, NCAA Bylaw, Article 11 and its requiremnt to report all athletically-related income and benefits from sources outside of the College to the President) and the WCC as now constituted or as may be amended in the future. Supervise and ensure that any assistants and any other employees and/or volunteers for whom you are administratively responsible comply with the aforesaid policies, rules and regulations. Immediately advise the Director of Athletics and Recreation if you have reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees or students, have occurred or will occur.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor's Degree, but Master's Degree preferred
Experience: 5 years experience
Skills/Abilities: Proficiency with computer skills, written & verbal skills, trades, laws, procedures and technical issues
Other Requirements: Experience/background in men's basketball preferred. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with all levels of players, coaches, administrators and staff. Strong organizational skills with ability to handle multiple, competing tasks and priorities. Team-oriented individual with willlingness to take initiative and be flexible. Understanding and supportive of the values and ideals of the Lasaillian, Catholic, and liberal arts tradition.
