Ball State University welcomes applications for a Landscape Services Supervisor position.

Job Function:

Perform supervisory and administrative duties for landscape services group leaders and crews.

Minimum Education:

Eighteen months of specialized training or education beyond high school or equivalent.

Preferred Education:

Associate's degree.

Minimum Experience:

Three through five years of experience in grounds maintenance, landscape installation, nursery, garden center, or related area; one year of supervisory experience; must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy.

Preferred Experience:

Over one year of supervisory experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, schedule, and coordinate the daily operations of Facilities and Landscape workers, including landscape installation and maintenance, mowing/trimming, snow and ice removal, related equipment operation, fertilizer applications, etc.
  • Inspect work in progress and completed work to ensure compliance with established standards; direct any rework or modifications; develop, implement, and monitor procedures to ensure efficiency of operations.
  • Assign and review work, orient and train staff, and make recommendations as to interviewing and selection, performance appraisal, and discipline.
  • Coordinate with university departments for Facilities and Landscape Workers as needed for labor; assign and monitor work.
  • Responsible for flowerbeds in zones assigned; includes layout and fertilizer application, supervision of installation and maintenance.
  • Coordinate/arrange repair and maintenance of grounds equipment as needed; follow up on such repairs/maintenance to assure completion.
  • Plan, coordinate, and schedule training for various areas of ground maintenance practices and procedures, including landscape installation and maintenance, mowing/trimming, snow and ice removal.
  • Update, maintain, and train workers on various job related chemicals, tools, environmental and safety concerns, and MSDS/OSHA regulations; have a working knowledge of Health and Environmental Safety Programs that apply to landscape services.
  • Monitor and enforce all safety, shop, and university rules and regulations and report problems to the Assistant Director of Landscape / Environmental Management and resolve problems appropriately.
  • Gather and provide information to management for budget preparation, cost analysis, forecasting, recommendations for equipment purchases, time studies, etc.
  • Participate in the rotation for the on call snow event emergency call process with other Landscape Services supervision.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
