CLINICAL PROFESSOR IN TEACHER EDUCATION 

Position Description:

The College of Education and Human Development at the University of Louisville seeks a clinical faculty member and collaborative colleague with a background in teacher education for a one-year position in the Department of Elementary, Middle, and Secondary Teacher Education. We are especially interested in an individual who demonstrates expertise in elementary educational settings with linguistically, culturally, racially, ethnically, and economically diverse students and teachers. Successful applicants for this position will contribute to a variety of undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation programs. Responsibilities may include teaching general foundational courses, content methods (literacy, mathematics) courses, specialist courses (mathematics and/or literacy), supervising field experiences and collaborating with colleagues and district stakeholders.

Position: Clinical Assistant Professor in Teacher Education

To help realize this goal, the Department of Elementary, Middle, and Secondary Teacher Education (EMSTEd) within the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) seeks a clinical faculty member in teacher education for a one year position. Applicants should have experience in teaching in elementary teacher preparation programs and masters’ level work, including courses in evidence-based curriculum planning, foundations as related to the teaching profession, culturally relevant pedagogies, instructional technology and design, methods (e.g., mathematics, literacy) and graduate level work in mathematics education and/or literacy education. Applicants would ideally have classroom experience (K-5) and able to teach in a variety of instructional formats.

Major Responsibilities

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in teacher preparation programs, advising undergraduate and graduate students, supervising students in field placements, participating in program development, and providing service to the college, university, professional associations, and discipline-related community partners.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned Master’s degree or terminal degree (PhD, EdD), preferably with a focus on elementary mathematics and/or literacy development (for literacy and mathematics, 18 hours of graduate work in the area is required)
  • Record of commitment to diverse student populations
  • Evidence of commitment to the principles of anti-racism, diversity, social justice, and culturally sustaining pedagogies to enhance equity and inclusion.
  • Informed understandings of the field including evidence-based practices and methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in one or more areas: elementary mathematics, early literacy development, children’s literature, instructional technology and design, and curriculum development and planning
  • Teaching experience in elementary classrooms (3+ years).
  • University teaching and field supervision
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues and other stakeholders.

Salary: Competitive, based on experience and qualifications

Appointment: 1 year (10-month contract)
