Job Description

Responsibilities*
As a Lecturer at UMSI, you will help set up and adjust pre-designed UMSI courses on Coursera, grade, hold office hours, manage auto graders, answer student questions and communicate with students, develop course materials, and facilitate small group online discussions and student conversations. You will also work collaboratively with lead instructors, other instructional team members, and UMSI staff (who help with administration and student advising/life functions) to ensure that students receive an excellent education and are aware of support services in the larger UM and UMSI communities. You will continuously learn about the courses and future offerings, the program, and effective online pedagogy. Coordination with other members of the instructional team to ensure daily/evening/weekend coverage for students will be expected.

Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree in Data Science or a related field, such as Information, Computer Science, or Statistics
2+ years of experience programming with Python
Current knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in data science applications and techniques
Relevant, high-quality teaching experience and the equivalent of teaching/training roles in the industry
Deep interest in improving pedagogy and collaboration to perform instructional best practices
A commitment to inclusive teaching and cultural diversity
Desired Qualifications*
Master's degree in Data Science or a related field, such as Information, Computer Science, or Statistics
Experience taking and/or building classes, particularly with the Coursera platform
Experience with tools used in the full range of data science activities from Jupyter Notebooks to Altair to AWS
Current participation in professional associations

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
