Job Summary
The Department of Materials Science & Engineering seeks an Engineer in Research-Intermediate to provide engineering and technical support in our Van Vlack Student Laboratory. This position will serve as an engineer supporting academic and research lab equipment and instrumentation. Duties will include design, development, maintenance of equipment on-site and future needs. Training for personnel and students on the use of equipment. This position will also serve as technical advisor for research groups working collaboratively to achieve results using the equipment. This may include creating and conducting testing, sample preparation and analysis. This position will track users and provide billing and additional reports as needed.

Responsibilities*
Design, develop and maintain scientific research and teaching equipment. This includes working with vendors to develop and ensure equipment specifications are met. Negotiate service contracts and repair as needed.
Plan and train student users for both research and academic pursuits
Conduct tests and analysis using equipment in collaboration with researchers
Create and maintain billing, user logs and scheduling of use of equipment
Work with lab and facilities team to maintain operations in the labs
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Engineering related field. Work experience or education in machine shop and/or practical manufacturing technology. Experience working with a diverse group of colleagues; ability to interpret and effectively communicate Department, University guidelines and policies; demonstrated ability to work independently and also collaborate effectively as part of a team; demonstrated ability to work under pressure of deadlines and competing priorities; ability to function productively in an ever-changing, high-stress, fast-paced environment; must be supportive of, and participate in, change initiatives to improve service, efficiencies and/or productivity; excellent attendance and dependability are essential.
