The School of Nursing seeks to hire an Assistant Professor with an extensive background in clinical anesthesia, expertise in multimodal anesthesia techniques, and experience in teaching and mentoring nurse anesthesia residents. Responsibilities include didactic teaching of anesthesia courses as well as development and implementation of simulation scenarios relevant to nurse anesthesia practice. Demonstrated experience with didactic, clinical, and simulation education, including pedagogical understanding and knowledge of best practices, will be essential. This individual will also function as an academic advisor and lead Doctor of Nursing Practice project teams for nurse anesthesia residents. This is a 12-month,.80 FTE position starting in August 2024 in the Nurse Anesthesia Program.
Leadership skills in working with diverse groups and the academic credibility to garner respect from colleagues and clinical partners are crucial. The individual must possess excellent communication and collaboration skills and abilities, be flexible, and follow through on matters related to faculty and student success. The faculty member will support and serve as a role model for our mission, vision, strategic, and service initiatives and act in a professional manner in alignment with the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Nursing.
- Eligible to obtain or currently hold an unencumbered RN license in Kentucky.
- Eligible to obtain or currently hold an unencumbered APRN/CRNA license in Kentucky.
- Current NBCRNA certification.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in clinical anesthesia.
- Recent education or effective teaching experience in multiple course delivery modalities, including in-person, online, and hybrid.
- Experience in course development, delivery, and evaluation.
- Excellent presentation, writing, communication, and team collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Clinical experience in performing regional anesthesia.
- Demonstrated leadership and teaching scholarship.
- Robust knowledge of salient research, effective pedagogical practices, adult learning theories, instructional design, higher education workforce trends, assessment techniques, scholarly research practices, teaching practices, and teaching technologies.
- Experience with effective student-centered teaching and learning and teaching with technology including simulation.
- Experience developing curricular and other educational programming with broad campus collaboration.
