Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Assist faculty with teaching labs as needed, particularly those requiring use of equipment in the AOM shop or any other specialized machinery, including pumps, sprayers, and motors. These activities include but are not limited to the preparation, planning, and layout of machinery/equipment. Demonstrate advance knowledge in maintenance and operation of complex tools, precision machinery, and engineering equipment.

Serve as a subject matter expert and assist faculty and graduate students with designing and constructing items for research programs and student competitions. Present ideas, concepts, and instructions to develop new techniques or procedures necessary to achieve the desired outcomes while serving as a project or team leader.

Assist faculty and graduate students with the selection and purchasing of materials and equipment based on operational and performance specifications necessary for class. This will include the use of My UF Marketplace and UF PCards.

Provide backup facility support for Frazier Rogers and other ABE buildings. Responsible for the safe maintenance and operation of equipment or machines necessary to properly modify or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures as required by specifications for the wood shop. Serve as the manager and responsible for properly fallowing all UF EH&S standards and policies for the teaching facility at the shop. Operation of state vehicle between various work locations.

Interpret engineering sketches, specifications or drawings and provide support for students outside of class when working on projects that require the teaching facility shop.

Other duties as need by the Department Chair or the Facility Manager.

Occasional contact with Cooperators, contractors and vendors associated with field work and equipment used in laboratories.

Must be able to tolerate high heat and humidity sometimes encountered in field work and testing.

Must be able to lift 50 pounds, bend, squat, work in confined areas and work on and around machinery.

EXPECTED SALARY:
Commensurate with experience.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or equivalent and three years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/tech training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Working knowledge of Microsoft -Word, Excel, Outlook
