The University of Louisville and the Department of Planning, Design & Construction are inviting applicants to apply for a Temporary/Casual Worker Interior Designer position. This position works directly with clients to plan the programming, coordination, design and space planning of furnishings and equipment for new and renovated interior spaces on all university campuses, as well as collaborates with UPDC project managers and consultants on various types of projects. This position is also responsible for design and procurement of interior signage, environmental graphics, and wayfinding signage.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide interior space planning, layout and design by consulting with faculty and staff involved with the construction project, oftentimes multiple projects simultaneously and at various stages in the design and construction process.
Recommends and specifies furniture and finishes (carpet, paint, and fabric).
Prepares furniture layout drawings or deliverable documents for client presentations and to furniture vendors.
Provides finish and fabric selections for client approval
Prepares project budgets
Responsible for ordering, receiving, and coordinating installation of furniture and finishes
Project manages finish improvement renovations with the University’s physical plant department or approved contractors/vendors.
Design and procurement of interior signage, including regulatory signage, room signs, and wayfinding.
Responsible for entering FF&E orders (requisitions) into the University’s purchasing system, approve and process payments, and reconciling orders as needed
Maintain department credit card and reconciliations for expenditures
Consult with third party designers for capital projects to ensure specified materials meet University Standards.
Select and procure furniture for capital projects.
Maintain historic records including floor plans, cad archives, specifications, materials and equipment selections from past projects
Assist in warranty replacements and repairs
Preferred Qualifications
Kentucky Certified Interior design license
NCIDQ Certification
Familiarity with Smartsheet
Familiarity with Peoplesoft
Familiarity with government pricing and purchasing contracts
3-4 years of commercial interior design planning and project management experience, preferably in a university or government setting
Competencies
Proficient Autocad
Familiarity with a wide variety of commercial grade fabrics, finishes and furniture products
Proficient in the Microsoft Office Software Suite
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
