Summary

The Human Genome Sequencing Center (HGSC) at Baylor College of Medicine is recruiting a Research Technician III to work in its CLIA laboratory conducting next-generation sequencing assays.  The candidate should be able to work independently and within the CLIA team. They should be flexible and adapt to the pipeline requirements and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner. Qualified candidates should be good at multi-tasking, problem-solving, and have strong communication skills. 

Job Duties

  • Perform pipeline production tasks for Next Generation Sequencing library preparation with liquid handling systems.
  • Conduct laboratory routine instrument maintenance, reagent testing and consumable tracking to keep production going without interruption.
  • Participate in lab compliance activities to comply CAP, CLIA, HIPPA and all relevant Federal, State and local regulations.
  • Document experiment procedures.
  • Collect, compile, evaluate and analyze data. Interpret detailed assay procedures and test results.
  • Perform laboratory research projects and production tasks.
  • Update LIMS, sample tracking and summarize data in an appropriate format.
  • Prepare reagent, solutions, and oligos used for production.
  • Perform routine laboratory equipment maintenance and log records as required.
  • Track the inventory for reagents and report  when furthering order is needed.
  • Work  within a team to process samples in the production pipeline, as well as work on projects including protocol development and optimization.
  • Work under the direction of the team leader and the group manager. 
  • Document experiment procedures. Collect, compile, evaluate and analyze data. Interpret detailed assay procedures and test results.
  • Update LIMS, sample tracking and summarize data in an appropriate format.
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
