Summary

The IDDRC biorepository core facility assists the investigators of BCM IDDRC by processing, cataloging, biobanking, and shipping samples. The core facility receives human bio samples that includes plasma, serum, urine, blood for DNA and RNA extraction, blood for establishing lympho-blastoid cell lines, and skin biopsies to establish expand and bank fibroblast cultures. All of the data on the samples are electronically stored on a clinical trial management system hosted by Baylor IT. The billing is through a centralized iLabs process.

Job Duties

  • Orders laboratory supplies.
  • Coordinates with investigators to receive samples.
  • Processes samples appropriately, aliquot the samples, and biobank the samples.
  • Performs cell cultures to develop cell lines.
  • Extracts DNA and RNA from human tissues.
  • Labels appropriately, catalogues every sample and maintains entry on an electronic database and assists with billing services.
  • Works and organizes samples in liquid nitrogen and -80 degree freezers.
  • Performs other lab-related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.
