Organizational Unit Overview
Information Technology and Computing Services (ITCS) is the central agency that supports enterprise-wide computing at East Carolina University. ITCS, through innovative information technology initiatives and service, provides opportunities for the ECU community to excel in teaching, research, and service using state-of-the-market technology and collaborative environments. ITCS is first and foremost committed to providing excellent information technology support for faculty, staff, and students. ITCS partners with campus departments, other universities, and industry to make strategic investments in information technology infrastructure that will help maintain a competitive advantage in administrative applications, faculty research, and outreach to the state and nation. We will achieve this through increasing the core functions and deploying appropriate technology throughout the university.

Networking Services is composed of various primary support areas including: Network Architect, Network Applications, Unified Communications, Network Infrastructure and Network Engineering and Support.

The Network Infrastructure is a team of full time technicians providing installation, maintenance, administration, and all other infrastructure support requirements for the University.
Job Duties
• Assisting in the day-to-day management, deployment, maintenance, automation, disaster recovery and troubleshooting of various enterprise-level network services.
• Installation, troubleshooting and repair of data circuits, Ethernet cabling and fiber optics.
• Provide support for enterprise wireless, data, VoIP, datacenter services, access control systems, software and infrastructure related problems with switches, wireless technologies, and power conditioning devices.
• Troubleshooting may be detected and/or performed onsite or through network monitoring diagnostic tools.
• Complex network issues are escalated to higher level networking analysts, specialists, or vendors for resolution.
• This position manages projects that have a medium impact and tasks related to implementation of critical network infrastructure, new construction, and building renovations.
• Perform reviews before a project is started or during a project to ensure adherence to university technical specification standards. Specifications are provided to employees for applications/tasks when appropriate.
• Forming and maintaining strategic technology contacts and partnerships with university departments, key technology suppliers, vendors and contractors.
• Planning, cost containment, configuration, optimization, maintenance, security, and scalable implementation of current and emerging technologies.
• Maintaining verifying data, report writing, summarizing and reconciling information or financial data, data collection and analysis, research and inventory.
• Maintains current knowledge of software or hardware changes and plans changes appropriately in response to business needs.

The standard work schedule for this position will need to be adjusted to meet the position requirements, which include and are not limited to evening and weekend hours to perform scheduled and unscheduled workload requirements to maintain University operations.
Minimum Education/Experience
Associates Degree in Electronics, Networking Technology or a closely related degree; Graduation from high school and two years of networking related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Journey level requires an additional six months experience.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
• Knowledge of principles, protocols, and practices of network communication
• Knowledge of IP routing and switching equipment and technologies
• Working knowledge and experience of ethernet and TCP/IP
• Experience with wireless networking, preference for controller-based environments
• Knowledge and experience installing and maintaining copper and fiber-based network cabling
• Knowledge and experience with copper and fiber-based network cabling standards
• Knowledge and experience with telephony technologies
• CompTIA Network+ or higher, such as CCNA, certification within the last 5 years
