Job Description

Are you an early career researcher looking for your first challenge? Are you interested in working at the cutting edge of technology and sustainability in apparel and textiles?  Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?

This is an opportunity to be a core part of a small research and development team looking to make a positive impact for people and the planet in the UK and across complex supply chains in the global south.

The project is funded by Innovate UK and will deliver an industry-first AI-powered sourcing tool to enable fashion and textile companies to scenario plan for environmental and social risks. Your work will make up a valuable and significant contribution to the project's output. There will be significant opportunities for professional development working with a small early-stage UK start-up team bringing innovation to industrial commercialisation.

You will work closely with Prof Chee Yew Wong (sub-contractor for the sustainability impacts and risk research work package) from Leeds University Business School and sustainability-as-a-service technology experts from Bendi (principal investigators) to support core research activities, project management activities, and impact and engagement activities, in line with the project’s strategic objectives to develop an AI scenario sourcing/planning tool.

With experience in conducting qualitative research (particularly in the digitalisation of sustainability data in textiles, both environmental sustainability - emissions, water and chemicals, and social sustainability - labour and human rights), you will possess expertise in how supply chain risk informs sourcing and production choices in fashion and textile supply chains. You will also be familiar with major sustainability reporting frameworks and standards in fashion and textiles.
