Job Description

Tenure-Track Faculty in the Department of Computer Science hold full-time appointments with a workload allocation of approximately 40% teaching, 50% research, and 10% service. They are expected to develop nationally recognized research programs supported by external funding, disseminate their work in high-impact venues, and mentor both graduate and undergraduate students in research. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses, curriculum development, and the use of effective and inclusive pedagogy. Tenure-Track Faculty also contribute to departmental, university, and professional service, consistent with Virginia Tech’s land-grant mission and commitment to Ut Prosim (“That I May Serve”). Their performance is evaluated annually, and advancement is governed by the university's promotion and tenure process.

Required Qualifications

- An earned doctoral degree in Computer Science or closely related field at the time of the appointment and a rank-appropriate record of scholarship and collaboration in computing research.

- Record of significant research accomplishments (e.g. publications) and rank-appropriate record of professional service.

- Ability to contribute to the department's teaching mission, at both graduate and undergraduate levels.

Preferred Qualifications

- Demonstrated interest in collaborative research in fields represented by department's existing faculty or planned hiring.

- Demonstrated ability and willingness to work collaboratively with faculty from a variety of disciplines.

- Recognition of research excellence as demonstrated by e.g. best paper or society awards.

- Instructional experience in higher education.
