Facilities Services Division provides quality customer service by maintaining a safe, healthy, and aesthetically pleasing environment in which students, faculty, and staff can function and accomplish their educational objectives and by supporting a patient care culture that continuously improves. Facilities Services' responsibilities include Interior and Exterior Facilities Support, Construction, Space Management, and Environmental Services.
Job Summary
The Grounds Foreman supervises the maintenance and beautification of the campus landscape and grounds.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Maintenance, Training & Supervision
Participate in and assign tasks to groundkeepers. review results continuously and confer with supervisor on daily activities. Provide safety and technical training. Ensure the use of appropriate personal protection equipment and power equipment safety devices. Ensure that Grounds Shop is maintained and compliant to OSHA regulations. Prune plants materials at appropriate times with hand tools and motorized equipment. Apply mulch to shrub beds and under trees. Control weeds manually and with herbicides. Apply fertilizer to shrub beds and under trees. Plant and maintain seasonal color beds. Oversee maintenance of irrigation systems and scheduling watering times. Provide direction for painting of parking lots and traffic signage. Monitors condition and schedule repairs for parking areas and sidewalks.
Equipment Maintenance
Ensure routine maintenance is performed (oil change, filter change, fasteners tightened, blades sharpened/replaced and proper fuel storage). Ensure oil checks prior to starting engine. Ensure daily cleaning of equipment after usage. Notify supervisor of safety issues.
Work Assignment & Supplies/Equipment Purchases
Schedule work assignments and determine labor needed to complete the Schedule of overtime labor for special events. Responsible for purchasing shop supplies and necessary equipment.
Meetings
Attend event meetings with customers to ensure a successful event. Meeting with work order requesters to understand the scope of the work and answer question or concerns. Attend weekly supervisor's or lead's meeting for campus event and work project information.
Inventory
Forecast future equipment and material needs. Coordinate and assist coworkers with event set ups. Wear appropriate uniform and maintain good hygiene. Treat coworkers, supervisors, students, faculty and visitors with respect. Follow all departmental and university policies. Complete annual employee appraisals and disciplinary procedures. Attend Enterprise training sessions and required meetings. Maintain tree inventory and update as needed. Inspect and monitor storm drains and retention ponds.
Purchasing Card & Maximo Responsibility
Perform financial accounting duties required for possession of State of Georgia Purchasing Card (if a P-Card is being issued). Ensure that shop labor times and material costs are being entered into the Maximo System.
Oversee Waste Management
Remove plant debris and place into yard waste container. Empty and clean waste containers. Removal of litter and chewing gum.
Schedule & Oversee Contracted Services
Schedule any contracted work or service with the Facilities Coordinator. Ensure that work is completed to satisfaction. Monitor to see that work is performed safely and within facility standards.
Other Duties
Wear uniform as outlined in policy and maintain good hygiene. Treat students, coworkers, supervisors, faculty and visitors with respect. Assist coworkers with other assignments such as pressure washing, weed and pest control Transport equipment, pick up supplies and haul yard debris off campus when needed. Perform any other related duties and assignments as instructed by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma, GED or equivalent from a recognized State or Federal accredited organization with seven (7) years of experience in grounds maintenance work. Valid driver's license required.

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Associate¿s degree from an accredited college or university with (7) seven or more years of experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance and supervision
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
ABILITIES
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Ability to make decisions independently on routine assignments
Knowledge about culture of ornamental plants, particularly pruning
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases
Must possess initiative and self-motivational skills to complete assignments
Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently or as a team member
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions for Landscape/Grounds tasks
Ability to delegate assignments and review performance; operate and maintain grounds power equipment and tools; and delegate assignments and review performance
Ability to follow specific oral and written instructions; use a variety of standard power and hand tools; and perform heavy manual labor for extended periods often under adverse climatic conditions

Pay Band: 8
Salary : $21.83/hourly - $27.26/hourly
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position

Conditions of Employment

Credit Check

The Human Resources Division will request a driver's history report for the identified top candidate(s) for this position. We will initiate this through our Background Check Vendor; this report will come from the Department of Motor Vehicles. The selected candidate must have a valid driver's license.
