The Department of English at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of English specializing in World Literature and/or Comparative Literature and Media teaching a 3/3 load to begin August 2026. Candidates must hold a PhD in English, World Literature, or Comparative Literature and/or Cultural Studies by August 2026 and have college-level teaching experience. We are particularly interested in scholars who can provide evidence of successful teaching experience with focus on one or more of the following: Digital Humanities; Human-centered storytelling in an age of AI; early literature (particularly world mythologies); folklore and place-based storytelling; medical humanities and narratives.

We seek candidates who show demonstrated potential as a teacher-scholar whose research and teaching engage world literary and cultural studies in diverse historical, cultural, and/or digital, filmic, and media contexts. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate literature courses, introductory literature and composition courses. We welcome candidates able to contribute related programs and minors in Digital Culture and Design, English Secondary Education, Film and New Media, the Joyner Institute for Gullah and African Diaspora Studies, and The Athenaeum Press.

The department offers three majors: BA in English, BA in Digital Culture and Design, and the newly added BA in English Education. We also offer five minors and house the MA in Writing program, which prepares students for careers in writing, editing, and publishing or for further graduate study in MFA or PhD programs.
