Job Description
Summary
The Intern/Aide will support the Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center’s Epidemiology and Population Science Program, which focuses on studying risk factors and outcomes related to childhood cancer and hematological diseases. This internship provides hands-on training in epidemiological research methods, including data analysis, quality control, and scientific literature review. The intern will work closely with faculty mentors, participate in research meetings, and contribute to projects aimed at improving prevention and outcomes in pediatric cancer and hematology.
Job Purpose
Provides temporary administrative or laboratory support to a department while gaining practical work experience.
Job Duties
- Assist with data entry and maintenance of research datasets
- Perform quality control (QC) checks on study data
- Support analysis of research data under faculty guidance
- Conduct reviews of scientific literature related to epidemiological research
- Help manage and track laboratory sample inventory as needed
- Participate in group meetings with program faculty
- Attend one-on-one mentoring sessions with assigned faculty mentor
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in high school, trade/vocational school or higher education institution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Interest in pursuing a career in medical or epidemiological research
- Currently pursuing or planning to pursue an undergraduate degree in a science-related field
- Prior experience working in a laboratory setting is preferred but not required
- Basic understanding of research methods, data handling, or scientific literature is beneficial
