HBSITseeks aPrincipalIAM(Identity and Access Management) Engineerto provide operational leadership and service management for our identity and access technology platforms. This rolecollaborates in the design, development, testing, delivery, and support of high-quality and innovativeservices. As both a strategist and contributor,you’llpartner with HBS colleagues and vendor staff to deliver high-impact solutions that advance theSchool’smission.

Job-Specific Responsibilities:

  • Serve asServiceOwnerand TechnicalOversightLeadfor HBS identity and access management platforms,providing technical leadership and accountability foroperational excellence, system administration, and continuous improvement
  • Define and execute the long-term strategic roadmap for theIAMecosystem, aligning technology capabilities with institutional priorities
  • Providetechnical leadershipondesign,advanced support, troubleshooting, processimprovement, anddocumentation
  • Lead the fullIAMservice lifecycle, from strategy and design through implementation, optimization, and ongoing support, while evaluating business and risk implications
  • Translatecomplexproblemsintoclear, detailed requirementsforengineers and end-users
  • Build andmaintainpartnerships with IT colleagues,HBS Partners,Managed Service Providers(MSP), and vendors to support enterprise goals and high-quality service delivery
  • Oversee MSP relationships and vendor performance, ensuring operational effectiveness andcompliance withuniversitystandards
  • Serve as amentortoengineersandprovidesupervision of temporary resources who deliver reliable, scalable, and secure environments.
  • Model and promote collaborative, and service-oriented culture that strengthens trust, accountability, and shared ownership
  • Build trust and collaboration by being present on-site and engaging directly with colleagues and various constituents
  • Complete other related duties as assigned

Working Conditions:

  • Additionalsupport outside of regularly scheduled hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holiday breaks, may occasionally berequired
  • Must be available by personal cell phone during business hours, and occasionally off-hours (stipend will be provided)
  • Mustparticipatein a shared 24x7x365 on call rotation with other IT staff

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of seven years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

The following are preferred:

  • Experience withidentity and access managementtechnologies, including platform administration, directory services, authentication protocols, and security
  • Experienceleading services through fulllifecycleusing Agile delivery methodologies
  • Demonstrated success delivering or managing advanced technology services and infrastructure, includingon-premises and/orcloud
  • Proven ability in MSP/vendor management,including driving accountability, managing servicelevelsand ensuring alignment with organizational standards
  • Advanced abilityto collaborate across-teamsbuild trustedpartnershipsand adapteffectively within a dynamic environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to simplify complextechnical and business challengesand develop clearanddetailed requirements
  • Excellentcommunication skills, includingademonstratedability toinfluencestakeholders,facilitatedecisionmaking andpresentto technicaland non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience drivingprocess improvementand changemanagement

Additional Information

  • Standard Hours/Schedule: 40 hours per week
  • Compensation Range/Rate (including Shift Differential if applicable): $135,000 - $140,000,salary commensurate with experience

  • Other Information:
  • This role is a hybrid position which we consider to be a combination of remote and onsite work at our Boston, MA-based campus. HBS expects all staff to be onsite at least three days per week and for departments to provide onsite coverage Monday - Friday. Specific hours and days onsite will bedeterminedby business needs and are subject to change withappropriate advancednotice.
  • We may conduct candidate interviews virtually (phone and/or via Zoom) and/or in-person for this role.

Work Format Details

This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University’s Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
