Summary

The Intern/Aide will contribute to research investigating how fusion oncoproteins regulate chromatin structure and gene expression to drive cancer cell growth. This role provides hands-on training in cell culture techniques, experimental design, and data collection within a collaborative laboratory environment.

This position is ideal for individuals with an interest in basic scientific or medical fields. It is well-suited for those currently preparing for graduate or medical school and who have optional hours each week to gain hands-on experience in a scientific laboratory setting

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform and support cancer cell culture in both 2D (monolayer) and 3D systems, gaining experience with advanced in vitro modeling techniques
  • Assist in operating laboratory instrumentation and equipment required for molecular and cellular biology experiments (training provided)
  • Prepare reagents and solutions to support ongoing research projects
  • Accurately document experimental procedures and maintain detailed laboratory records
  • Collect, analyze, and compile cell culture and imaging data for research use
  • Support a senior faculty member and research team in day-to-day laboratory activities

Research Focus:

  • Investigate molecular mechanisms by which fusion oncoproteins alter chromatin dynamics and gene expression in cancer models

Learning & Development:

  • Gain exposure to cutting-edge cancer biology research and experimental methodologies
  • Develop foundational laboratory, data analysis, and scientific documentation skills within an academic research setting

Job Purpose

Provides temporary administrative or laboratory support to a department while gaining practical work experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Must be enrolled in high school, trade/vocational school or higher education institution.
