Qualifications:
Legal Aspects of Sport provides each student with a broad analysis of the United States' legal system and the major cases and laws that make up the legal aspects of sport, recreation, and physical activity. Particular attention will be paid to proactive risk management strategies for teachers, coaches, and administrators that will minimize their organizations' legal liability. Topics include: an overview of the legal system, negligence, intentional torts, risk management, contracts, constitutional law, federal statutes and discrimination, and intellectual property law.
This course will be taught in person on the Moraga campus during the 2026 Fall term on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 9:50 - 11:30 am.
In addition to teaching, the instructor is expected to hold regular office hours (a minimum of one hour per week) in order to provide students with support outside of the classroom.
The successful candidate will hold a terminal degree in Kinesiology or a closely related field and have a recent publication record in the field, or a Master's degree in Kinesiology or a closely related field and have at least five years of current, relevant professional experience. Demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the graduate level as evidenced by recent course evaluations is strongly preferred. Candidates should be comfortable supporting and working in a multi-cultural environment. Preference will be given to those who have taught the course or KINES 108.
Candidates must reside in California.
The salary range for this position is $7,447 - 10,308 (3 units) and is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
