Associate Professor in Critical Care Nursing
Job Purpose
The Department of Nursing at the University of Sharjah is seeking a dynamic and experienced Associate Professor in Critical Care Nursing, preferably practicing as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in Critical Care Nursing, or alternatively with strong recent clinical experience in a Critical Care Unit, to join our faculty in the Fall semester of the academic year 2026/2027.
The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, direct clinical supervision, and scholarly activities within the Undergraduate Nursing Program, the Master’s Program in Critical Care Nursing Practice, and other academic offerings.
The candidate is expected to hold a current license that enables practice as a specialized ICU nurse, in order to support the development of advanced clinical skills in our students while maintaining active practice in their specialty.
Main Responsibilities
1. Teaching & Instruction: Deliver clinically focused lectures, labs, and workshops; develop curriculum and course materials in advanced nursing practice.
2. Clinical Supervision: Oversee and mentor graduate and undergraduate nursing students in clinical settings; ensure alignment with best practice standards.
3. Scholarly Activity: Conduct, participate in, or supervise clinically relevant research and scholarship projects; collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to advance the nursing profession.
4. Program Development & Accreditation: Contribute to the ongoing development, accreditation, and evaluation of nursing programs, including the Master of Advanced Nursing Practice.
5. Student Advising: Provide academic and career guidance to students, fostering professional growth and leadership in advanced clinical practice.
Competencies
1. Ability to work effectively with Faculty, Staff and Students from diverse cultural background is essential.
2. Teaching in their specialization area, clinical supervision and research competencies are required.
3. Experience with program development in Critical Care, program accreditation, on-line teaching, simulation; and obtaining externally funded grants are desirable.
4. Candidate must have adequate research profile
Qualifications
1. A minimum of 5 years’ post-doctoral teaching experience in Critical Care Nursing in academic settings.
2. Eligible for UAE professional nurse licensure.
3. Demonstrate current scholarly activity and a track record of research publication.
4. Experience in Simulation Instruction.
5. Doctoral Degree in Nursing (PhD, DNS, or DNP) from an accredited institution with a specific specialty in Critical Care Nursing.
6. Active Advanced Practice Nursing License in Critical Care Nursing is preferable, or similar licensing to enable practice as Specialist nurse in Critical Care Unit.
7. Clinical Experience: A proven track record of clinical practice in the designated specialty area.
