Job Summary
The Department of Ophthalmology at the John A. Moran Eye Center is hiring an Associate Director of Research & Science. This person will serve as the point of contact for the 18 research faculty labs and their funding portfolios. This position is responsible for all funding activities including, federal grants, foundations, gfit’s and endowments. You will work closely with the faculty to manage their funding through the entire lifecycle. This position requires a strong attention to detail and a strategic, long-term planning mindset. Success in this position depends on your ability to build a rapport and adapt to different communication styles.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Prepare monthly financial reports for principle investigators and department leadership keeping them informed of any progress or problems.
Manage all research related funds and activities assigned by department leadership.
Post award administration for all sponsored projects, with the possibility to also assist with pre-award.
Assist research labs with hiring, terminations and resignations.
Serve as liaison between the department/faculty and Office of Sponsored Projects, Grants and Contracts Accounting, Funding Agencies and other central offices.
Work with department accounting office and faculty on lab purchases, act as level 1 approver for large purchases.
In collaboration with principle investigators and department leadership prepare annual research budget for labs and entire research operation.
Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Associate Director, Research Science: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 10 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 8 years of directly related work experience.
Preferences
Broad knowledge of sponsored project management (pre/post award) – 8 or more years of related experience.
