North Carolina Cooperative Extension invites applications for the position of Agriculture Extension Agent – Field Crops based in the Robeson County Extension Center. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to partner with communities, delivering research-based education and technology that enriches the lives, land, and economy of North Carolinians.

Robeson County, North Carolina. Robeson County is located in Southeastern North Carolina and is the largest county in the state in area, ranking 4th among NC counties in total farm cash receipts, with corn, soybeans, and wheat as top producers of commodities. Robeson County has a population of approximately 118,000 residents with a varied population demographic located approximately 100 miles from Raleigh and 80 miles from Wilmington and the Atlantic Ocean.

Primary Function of Position
The Agent will be responsible for delivering essential research-based information and resources related to agriculture and natural resources, with a focus on Field Crops (including but not limited to soybeans, small grains, cotton and peanuts) to the local community.
Other Work/Responsibilities
This multifaceted role encompasses:

Educational Program Development and Delivery: Plan, implement, and evaluate outcome-based educational programs for field crop producers and stakeholders, including demonstrations, workshops, field days, and other methods with measurable impacts collaborating with other agencies, groups, and organizations in order to more effectively reach the intended audience.
Consultation and Problem-Solving: Provide consultation services to individuals and groups, offering research-based solutions to agricultural challenges.
Research and Reporting: Produce Extension publications, collect and report data, and disseminate Extension recommendations through various avenues (newsletters, social media, press articles, etc.).
Stakeholder Engagement: Establish advisory committees to identify clientele needs, engaging in community outreach, conducting farm visits, and supporting other major commodities.
Pesticide Coordinator (potential): Assist County pesticide coordinator with delivering recertification training courses as needed.
Team Collaboration: Work with a high-performing Extension staff team, especially as it relates to agriculture, food, and 4-H youth development programs.
Resource Management: The pursuit of outside resources such as grants and donations will be necessary to support program expansion.
