Position Summary:
Arkansas Tech University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in its Computing Sciences programs beginning in August, 2026. Computing sciences serves over 350 students majoring in Computer Science (BS), Cybersecurity (AAS, BS), and Information Technology (AAS, BS, MS). The Computer Science program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET (http://www.abet.org). Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and student interactions through undergraduate and graduate research, advising and student organizations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach, assess, and develop courses in computer and information science and related fields with emphasis on one or more of the following areas:
- Artificial intelligence systems, computer networking, cybersecurity, and/or databases.
- Engage students in high-impact learning practices
- Provide impactful departmental, college, university, and professional service
- Effectively advise and mentor students at the undergraduate and Master's level
- Participate in scholarly activities including graduate and/or undergraduate research that leads to publications in appropriate journals and conferences.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in computer science, information technology, cybersecurity, and related fields.
Candidates with expertise in all areas of computer science and information technology are welcome to apply, those capable of teaching courses in developing artificial intelligence systems, computer networking, cybersecurity, or database systems ranging from beginning to advanced, are highly desired.
Additionally, being able to teach in-person, online and hybrid is expected.
Faculty members are expected to advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, to engage with appropriate student organizations, and will have an interest in or experience with faculty-student collaborative research, scholarship, and creative activity both at the undergraduate and graduate level.
The successful candidates will have demonstrated skills in oral and written communication.
Minimum Requirements:
Earned Doctorate from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity or a closely related field (or if ABD the degree must be awarded by December 31, 2026).
Preferred Qualifications:
Evidence of excellence in teaching and scholarship in one or more of the following areas: artificial intelligence, computer networking, cybersecurity, or databases
Industry experience and/or certifications in appropriate topics
Experience in online teaching
Experience in assessment activities
Participation in community outreach and/or recruiting activities.
Work Location, Environment, and Physical Demands:
This is an on-campus position in the Department of Engineering and Computing Sciences at ATU's Russellville, Arkansas campus.
