Job Description
Job Purpose
The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences – Department of Education – at the University of Sharjah seeks to appoint a faculty member at the rank ofAssistant Professor in Special Education (Hearing Impairment, Visual Impairment, or Intellectual Disabilities only)to commence teaching in the Fall Semester 2026.
The appointee will contribute to teaching specialized courses in undergraduate programs, particularly the Bachelor of Special Education, in addition to participating in academic and research supervision, program development, quality assurance, and academic accreditation.
Applicants will be required to submit official evidence of teaching doctoral-level courses in the fields of Hearing Impairment, Visual Impairment, or Intellectual Disabilities.
Main Accountabilities & Expectations
Teaching undergraduate courses in the Bachelor of Special Education Program and other programs offered by the department through effective utilization of modern technologies and innovative teaching methods.
Preparing and developing course syllabi, instructional materials, and learning units related to Special Education courses.
Conducting and publishing research in indexed journals (Scopus).
Supervising practicum/field training for students in schools and accredited institutions.
Supervising graduation projects and research theses (if postgraduate programs are available).
Contributing to the development and enhancement of academic programs in alignment with accreditation standards.
Actively participating in departmental, college, and university activities in line with the mission of the University (committees, academic events, and community service).
Contributing to quality assurance, accreditation, and institutional effectiveness processes at the college and university level.
Performing any other academic or administrative duties assigned by the department or college within the field of specialization.
Required Skills
Ph.D. in Special Education (Hearing Impairment, Visual Impairment, or Intellectual Disabilities only). Candidates with academic degrees from recognized and reputable English-speaking universities will be preferred.
Strong Scopus-indexed research record, along with an appropriate H-index.
Proven ability in curriculum development and research initiatives.
Minimum of two years of university-level teaching experience.
Proficiency in English and Arabic languages in teaching, publications and general communication.
Proficiency in using modern educational technologies and advanced teaching methods.
Ability to employ modern and effective teaching strategies.
Strong communication skills and ability to work within a collaborative, multidisciplinary academic team.
Ability to design and implement inclusive academic environments.
