Job Summary
Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) plays a role in the success of Michigan Medicine by providing clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff with technology-related information, products, and support. HITS also provides institutional expertise related to IT strategy, security, infrastructure, and resource management.

The Clinical and Revenue Cycle IT (CRC) division of HITS is seeking a Business Systems Analyst to join the MiChart HIM team. The MiChart (Epic) HIM team provides technical build, support, and maintenance of Coding/CDI, Deficiency, Identity, ROI, Scanning, and Care Everywhere workflows within the Epic Electronic Health Record System instance for Michigan Medicine.

As a Business Systems Analyst, you will be the primary support contact for the application and will be responsible for issue resolution, enhancement, and subsequent project work that impacts end users for these applications. You will collaborate with a diverse team of business analysts, project managers, technical analysts, vendor resources, and end users. This requires knowledge of the organization's policies and procedures, and business operations impacted by these applications.

You will report directly to the MiChart HIM Team Manager and work daily within a strong collaborative team environment. Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this role.


Division Overview

The HITS Clinical & Revenue Cycle IT (CRC) division is responsible for more than 350 clinical and revenue cycle applications that clinicians, staff, and patients rely on every day. CRC includes specialized teams that support inpatient, ambulatory, departmental, and revenue cycle areas across Michigan Medicine.

CRC also oversees many of Michigan Medicine's major IT platforms and applications, including the electronic health record (Epic), virtual care, pharmacy, radiology, radiation oncology, registration, document management, billing, and more.

Highly relied upon across the healthcare system, the CRC team collaborates closely with operational partners to deliver exceptional service. Team members regularly engage with customers to implement and configure workflows, enhancements, optimizations, and new modules or software while ensuring robust change control and testing processes. CRC staff contribute to a wide range of projects that help propel Michigan Medicine into the future.

Responsibilities*
Lead the design, build, implementation, and ongoing support of MiChart (Epic) workflows for the Health Information Management (HIM) and Care Everywhere applications.
Analyze business needs and workflows for end users. Document requirements, translate them into system specifications, and identify opportunities for process improvement.
Support Epic upgrades and new feature releases by reviewing release documentation, assessing new functionality, completing necessary build, coordinating testing, and facilitating user validation.
Evaluate options and recommend solutions that best meet operational needs, technical standards, and team goals.
Gather and assess enhancement requests from customers and stakeholders, ensuring clarity, feasibility, and alignment with system strategy.
Develop and maintain team procedures related to system configuration, change management, and project tasks.
Exercise independent judgment within your scope of responsibilities, operating with minimal supervision.
Participate in formal change control processes, ensuring changes are designed, tested, communicated, and implemented consistently.
Provider end user support and training, partnering with operational teams to ensure smooth adoption of workflow changes.
Collaborate with internal (MiChart/HITS) and Epic representatives to resolve integrated issues and coordinate cross-team build.
Manage the full life cycle of requested changes, including design, build, test, training, communication and documentation in ServiceNow and Epic UserWeb (e.g. Nova Notes, Sherlock).
Serve as a knowledge resource for other Application Coordinators (ACs) in the areas where you are the subject matter expert.
Participate in a team on-call rotation to provide after-hours support.
Obtain and maintain Epic certification or proficiency, completing required exams, training, and ongoing learning activities.
Required Qualifications*
Senior Level

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
5+ years of IT related experience.
Intermediate Level

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2-3 years of IT related experience.
Desired Qualifications*
Epic Identity and/or Care Everywhere certification or proficiency.
Previous experience working in an Academic Medical Center.
Knowledge of Identity and/or Care Everywhere workflows.
Experience implementing Epic functionality.
