The University of Nevada, Reno South Area Extension is recruiting for an IT Professional 2 in Las Vegas, NV. This position is responsible for the research, design, installation and configuration of servers, network devices, PC related hardware and software, virtual machines, network operating systems (LAN & WAN), application software and operating systems. The position monitors and measures network/server performance and analyzes system utilization in order to predict upgrade, replacement and expansion requirements. Other duties include managing and modifying databases as well as managing a dedicated STEAM room featuring specialized technologies and technical advisor for training and creating/maintaining documentation as well as instruction sets. The position will train Extension employees in the use of various software, Microsoft programs, Adobe suites, etc.

Required Qualifications

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and two (2) years of professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analysis and development, and/or information security; OR

Two (2) years of experience as an IT Professional I in Nevada State service; OR

Four years of relevant technical experience as an IT Technician IV or above in Nevada State service; OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above

A valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with experience in the following are encouraged to apply:

Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Microsoft Azure

Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices, including firewalls, VPNs, and endpoint security tools

Experience supporting hybrid environments

Schedule

The typical schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm and may include weekends and evenings; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Compensation Grade

Grade 38

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate’s qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
