Job Description
This Research Specialist Senior position is critical to all our projects and in integral part of the lab. The individual will be working with animals during research surgeries and experiments. The individual will also have operation and administrative duties along with assisting in the coordination of lab events and team meetings.
Duties and Responsibilities
Research and Technical Leadership:
Independently perform major and minor surgeries
Prepare surgical instruments for use in survival surgeries and minor procedures
Responsible for the upkeep of animal records and drug logs
Meet with state and federal regulatory entities to ensure lab research compliance
Instrumental in the research of new surgical techniques and protocol optimization
Innovate new methods to improve experimental design and logistics
Operations and Administration:
Manage procurement and inventory
Order supplies
Serve as expense delegate for leadership
Negotiate favorable pricing on new equipment
Support day-to-day operational and administrative needs for leadership
Standardize lab organization
Team Development:
Lead training and mentoring of students and junior staff
Coordinate lab events and team meetings
Arrange meetings with potential new collaborators across multiple disciplines
Collaborate with veterinary staff to develop and implement new management techniques
Collaborate with IT to remediate technical issues
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science is required
6 years of lab experience is necessary
3 years of experience working with animals is necessary
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively
Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, as well as basic computer skills are required.
Attention to detail is necessary.
Team player is necessary.
Able to prepare chemical solutions.
Requires standing for long periods,
Have the ability to lift animals weighing 30 to 60 lbs.,
